dragons tail accomodations

I'm headed to the Dragons Tail from Michigan on June 8 with some buddies, looking for some recomendations on accomodations, not looking to spend a lot of money but don't want a hole either.

Thanks

Iron Horse motorcycle resort is a pretty nice place, with accommodations ranging from trent camping to hotel-like rooms. http://ironhorsenc.com/

I'll probably get flamed for this but, I recommend going somewhere else besides the dragons tail. But if you are going can't remember the name of the hotel but right across from the casino in Cherokee there is a nice clean hotel I believe its one of the known chain names. I stayed there last year and it was reasonable that same week, and I didn't have reservations, just stopped in to get out of the rain, they had rooms available. If not there then there are several Indian motels all around there. But I recommend the one by the casino

Two Wheel Inn....

Two Wheel Inn is a nice, clean, resonably priced no frills motel in Robinsville, N.C.. It has close proximity to the Cherahola Skyway, the DragonTail, the Moonshiner 28 etc etc....another words in the middle of a bunch of great riding. In fact taking the most direct route to Robinsville from Michigan you'll ride the Dragontail before you even get there. Each room has your own private garage with the garage door opener located right inside your room. You can get one and a half bikes in there but you'd have to leave the door open, which where it's located isn't really a problem.

There is a lot of great riding in the area, and while I agree there are roads I like better then the Dragontail, especially on a touring bike, I think everyone should do it once. I like the Skyway and Moonshiner 28 better. 64 down through Highland N.C. is an amazing ride with lots of waterfalls, Maggie Valley and on and on. If you stay at Two wheel Inn ask the nice couple that runs it, they have maps and will tell you about some nice loops.

This time of year you're gonna need a reservation and I don't think you can do it online.

Dragon's Tail

I Good Friend of mine rode it last summer. He was riding his Bagger Shovel and his Girlfriend on her Sportster.

They both took their time and had a Great Ride. The biggest complaint they had was you really have to be on your guard. Semi's with trailer's take up ALL the lanes on some curves and are a real hazzard.

THey were told the truckers GPS will tell them of this "short cut" and by the time the realize their error,it's too late to turn around.

It is patrolled heavily so hopefully this won't be a problem when you go. My Wife and I both want to ride "The Tail" someday.

Have a Good Safe Trip.

I went and did the Dragon,s tail and I thought it SUCKED and was a waste of time. I stayed in Maggie Valley and they have plenty of hotels to choose from and there is a motorcycle museum there too. I would recommend going to Front Royal Virgina and do the Skyline drive through the Shenandoah National park and then head down the Blue Ridge Parkway, going this way you will end up in the Cherokee National park and the Great Smokey mountains and you are not far from Maggie Valley the Tail of the Dragon, Cherohala Skyway etc, etc. The BRP is way way better then the TOTD IMO.

If you've just "gotta go," do it... get the t-shirt... and go ride the good stuff!

Lots better riding all around the area!

Ran the Cherohala Skyway last Sunday (eastbound.) Not one bike/car passed me the whole 53 miles. This was even when I'd stopped to take in views!

Left the garage @ 6:20. Rode up to Tellico Plains across the Skyway, and was back home @ 1:40. 'Bout 300 miles, and a MUCH clearer head!

Why hasn't anyone mentioned Deal Gap Motorcycle Resort. http://www.dealsgap.com/motel.htm

It's right there if you can get a room. Nothing fancy, but if you are going to click the Tail off of your bucket list, then why not stay there.

I do agree with others, there are great roads in the area, but this is one of those "I was there" locations.
