Thumbs up PNW in Aug.2012

I am leaving Maryland Aug.11th for Keystone SD / Blackhills then west to Jackson Hole Wy. Tetons north to Yellowstone into Montana then south through Idaho and follow the Rockey Mnts.north to Glacier NP into Canada. Banff & Jasper, west into British Columbia to Whistler,Vancouver/Vancouver Is.Victoria to visit my Nieces,Then a ferry ride to Washington State. Then headed towards home on a unknown route.

I am travelling solo on this trip so I can knock out some major miles, and I also find I meet alot more people when I am by myself.I would really appreciate any and all suggestions on scenic routes/accomadations that you all have done.Packing the right MC cloths for this trip will be a challenge in itself because of the vast temp.swings along the way.I have some Gerbing electrics I am thinking I should pack to avoid bringing my bulky winter gortex suit.

I am doing this trip on my 2011 RGU that I currently have 18K miles on.I also bought a new Fugi X100 camera to document this trip.I will do a ride report when I get back if I can get some help posting pictures? If its possable here to post each picture with a brief discription in between? I also decided to get a new seat for this trip.I ordered a Mustang Vintage Super touring seat to give my butt a break.

Any information from you guys will be greatly appreciated in advance of me leaving.I think I will take my work laptop with me also.I am getting stoked for this trip. Thanks in advance for your help.

John. I'm going to be heading to Butte Montana Aug 13-15. Heading home through Glacier expecting to be back on the coast on Aug 18. Not sure of your dates but, hot shower and comfy bed close to Vancouver if you'd like it. Maybe I'll ride up to Whistler with you too.

Google Highway 2 in Nebraska. I plan to incorporate that as a part of my route to Sturgis from Omaha. Highway 2 is the most scenic highway in Nebraska and one of the most scenic in the country. You pick it up just west of Grand Island which you can get to from Omaha either by I 80 or by state Highway 92 or 192, I don't remember which.

If you take it, be sure to have a full tank of gas entering Highway 2 and do NOT pass any stations without gassing up. It's very desolate.

Sounds like a great trip. Be safe and enjoy.

Hey John,

There's a lot great riding in the PNW. In WA state I'd suggest Hiway 20 over the Cascade mountains. You can pickup Hiway 20 east from I-5 at Burlington. It will take you all the way to Idaho. You'll love it, this road is listed on lots of "Great Rides" lists.

Another great road is Hiway 12, which you pick up in south part of WA state. This road runs east into Idaho and over Lolo Pass. The section over Lolo Pass is a lot of fun. Once you get over Lolo Pass, you will be just a few miles south of Missoula Montana, which is on I-90.

If you have any questions, shoot me a PM. I am probably going to be in California from Aug 8 through Aug 14th.

Thanks again for all the advice on various routes through out the PNW.Got new rubber mounted yesterday and needed to change rear brake pads which I never use.Caliper was stuck causing one pad to wear down.Everyone have fun and ride safe going to Sturgis.
