Help with route from Charlotte to Laconia

I live in Alabama but am riding to Charlotte to meet a couple of buddies in June then heading to Laconia. Looks like we will "roughly"follow 219 up and 220 back. Just looking there seems to be a lot of 4 lane stretches on both.

Any advice on bypassing the 4 lane sections of one or both of these? Will allow 4 days up - around 1250 - 1300 miles, and the same coming back so really prefer no interstate or 4 lane highways.

If nothing else, can you tell me which sections are 4 lane so I can pick some secondary roads? PIA to go to google maps and zoom in until I figure it out.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Took a quick look. How far do you plan to go on 220 ?

I don't have secondary road knowledge for the first half of your trip.

As to general secondary info, I would suggest that you take I 287 around NYC, heading for the Tappan Zee Bridge, but get off on 9W north towards Albany. Runs along the Hudson river.

Near Albany, go east to pick up Rt 9 across VT into NH. Then take Rt 3 near Concord NH to Laconia.

Lots of great places to stop and visit. People that are more local to the route, please chime in on road conditions and nearby alternate roads.

There will be a RG meet and greet in Laconia. Keep an eye out for a new thread on Laconia 2016 that has been started. DJMan is a member here, and he DJ's at the Harley dealer, and NASWA Resort. Once his schedule in final, that thread will have the meet and greet info.

Thanks for the info. Here is a link to first pass on the up and back. Working in Basecamp but this is imported into Google maps

In Basecamp I cannot really tell, so import into Google maps then zoom in to check the roads.

Thanks again

I don't know the condition of Rt 11, that you have thru VT and NH. Might want to check that. Some of the roads have been damaged by frost heaves, and not repaired in awhile.

I do know Rt 9 is excellent.

Be mindful that the best part of the rally is riding around the region. Might want to adjust your lodging to Meredith area. Rt 3 north of there, Rt 112 over to North Conway, then 302 over the top is an awesome ride.
