Need Info For Eastern Iowa Trip

I'll be joining a group of friends in July for a three day weekend in Iowa and would appreciate any info on roads and lodging. We plan on stopping in Savanna, IL at Poopy's and/or Iron Horse on the way. Then on to Le Claire, IA for that American Pickers place. Last stop at Solon for the first of a few waterfalls we hope to visit on our trip. Any one no of a good clean mom and pop hotel in Solon or the vicinity, say Iowa City or Cedar Rapids? The next day includes the National Motorcycle Museum in Anamosa, then travel north for possably a few more waterfall stops and ending up in the Decorah area. Any good road suggestions for these two days would be much appreciated! We will also be looking for the same type hotel for that night in or near Decorah. I like staying at the local type hotels rather than the chain type hotels whenever possible. Not much to remember about the big chain places. Thanks for any suggestions you may have.

There are some good roads North of Savanna. IM me if you're interested. I'll send you some routes.

I've visited most of the places on your list. The only good roads I remember are the ones along the Mississippi. I did ride the Great River Road to the origin of the river.

American Pickers was a disappointment. No one from the show was there and they were pushing overpriced T-Shirts.

I did meet Mike Wolf at Puckett's in Leipers Fork, TN though.

I was wondering about that. Did a search and the place looks pretty small. Thanks for the tip.

They did build the second building since I was there. It was nice to get a photo of the bike and myself in front of it though.

I can vouch for the Eagle View in Guttenberg. Motorcycle-friendly, and a spectacular view of the river. Good riding on both the Iowa and Wisconsin sides.

This is the view from the Eagle View's deck....

I don't think you're saying that you're staying in Savannah but there is a nice bed and breakfast that caters to bikers from what I read in a magazine years ago. If you can hit Poopy's on Friday night, that'll be bike night in the summer with bands and I think free camping. Quite a scene from what I've heard. The Ironhorse is cooler than Poopy's in my book, WAY cooler stuff there, but the food at Poopy's is damn good. Frank Fritz also has an antique store in Savannah, a lot of stuff, nothing amazing but it's cheaper.

In Leclaire, depending on what you're looking to do. I've heard the Blue Iguana is a pretty good restaurant, Sneaky Pete's is a dive bar and food type of place but it must be pretty decent cause my old boss was there all the time. There is a pretty cool small batch distillery downtown on the river side. Free tours on the hour and a sample at the end. I've also heard there is now a micro brewery next door. There is a lot of junk stores downtown and candy places. The Shameless Chocoholic is off the main road, but it's pretty good if you like that kind of stuff. They are right about the Pickers place. Anything that is for sale is either overpriced souvenir crap, or antiques that if you have to ask how much it is you can't afford. Seriously. The stars won't be staffing the store, but they do have some of the cool things from the show like the buried Indian and stuff. I've been told Danielle has a clothing store downtown, but never heard anything more about it.

That's about all I can tell you. It's been a while since I've been that way. Have a great trip! Oh, and most of the roads suck in Illinois! Haha.

There is a nice bed & breakfast in Sabula called The Castle. It's right across the street from the Miss River. Also a nice brick oven Pizza place called Bombfire there as well.
