Great day, but wishing I had endless money

So had a pretty awesome day, one that I know will be etched in my mind forever and I hope will be in my 17 year old son's. We finally have great weather here in Indiana. My boy and I busted our asses Saturday getting stuff that needed done around the house so we could ride all day. This was going to be his first all day ride, only have been able to ride for a few hours so far. He wakes me up around 8, saying "Dad, what time were you wanting to go?" This is significant because again, he is 17. I was half expecting him to back out or get a better offer, or just decide he wanted to sleep until 2. Anyway up I go, excited about the ride. As I am getting my stuff together I hear voices in the garage. It's my neighbor, who just picked up a new SGS yesterday. (Yes, I tried but failed to convince him to get a shark). He and his wife, plus my boy and I rode about 35 miles to a little breakfast place in Bean Blossom. From there we rode a few miles down the road to Nashville, our friends headed a different direction and we checked out a couple leather/MC apparel shops. From there we headed to Bloomington to the HD shop, where my boy found this (picture) bike that he (and I) fell in love with last week helping Dan pick out his SGS. Man I wish I had the money to buy it. From there we rode through Morgan-Monroe State Forest and up to Trafalgar where he got a new pair of boots his Mom promised him for helping her out. Then we stopped in Bargersville for Pizza and headed home. He decided he wanted to lead. We were coming up this little country road and came around a corner, BOOM, a huge tractor pulling a tri fold disc was taking up the whole road. He did a great job getting it slowed down, although he did lock up the tires briefly, I would have if it wasn't for the ABS. Definitely a pucker moment, but he handled it great. If we had met about 600-700 yards further south on the road I honestly don't think we would have been able to get stopped in time to avoid a very nasty encounter. Anyway it was an incredible day, one I hope to repeat. It would have been even better if I had enough money to buy this bike for him to cruise with.

Good times hangin with the boy for sure. Enjoy these days. Mines getting married in a few months, so no money in the budget for a bike now. Glad your near miss was just that. That bike in the photo will give him something to shoot for.

Those days are the most memorable as a parent, being out on the road with your kids. I am glad that you both came out of the encounter safe.

Great story and sounds like a great time. Nice to share the road with your family. Just know that money may buy a new bike, but it won't buy you happiness.

Awesome day! I know you know this, but throwing it out there. I live in the country and always tell folks that are riding or driving, "Never go into a blind corner faster than you can stop in the distance you can see." What you encountered is a pretty common occurrence here in the country.

Also sounds like he should do a little more parking lot practice with panic stopping and evasive riding. Peace.

Totally agree, growing up in the country know the lesson well, especially this time of year and again during harvest. He definitely was under controlled speed and handled the lock up well, releasing the front and reapplying pressure. I didn't even know he had locked it up until he told me. I'm teaching him all I can, we've spent time in the parking lot and practiced. He takes the ABATE course here in about 6 weeks. I signed him up the day the classes opened and it was the earliest available slot. You try and teach them all you can, but sometimes experience is the best teacher. I'm glad he listened to what he has been told and remembered how to handle it.
