Moving to Champaign, IL

I currently live in the Seattle area and use my RGS for commuting and take it out to the mountains or coastline 2-3 times a week. That being said, I'm moving to Champaign, IL next week, and I'm concerned that the riding might be a bit boring. Can any of you guys from the area suggest good riding options? Looking for day rides; usually can't do overnights. Thanks.

Kind of flat where you are going to be. Some great rides in NW Illinois and some great riding in southern Illinois but it is flat around Champaign. I think we have a couple members from around that area who could be more help but I would just stay around the U of I campus and check out the college girls.

Yeah coming from Washington state the riding will seem pretty boring around Champaign. Its real flat and windy. Like the Dude said theres some good riding in the NW part of the state and you're not too far from SW Wisconsin which has some nice riding....pretty much all of Western Wisconsin is good riding. You could link some Wisconsin riding with a trip to the Harley Museum in Milwaukee which is worth the trip. Course that'd be more a weekend thing then a day ride.

Missouri too has good riding pretty much everywhere. I'm afraid though there ain't a lot in the way of day rides in the Champaign area that'll trip your trigger.

Rockville Indiana is about an hour away. Awesome biker/bbq place there. Indy is about 2 hours away. 30 minutes south of Indy there are some great roads in Southern Indiana. I live on the southside of Indy and would be happy to show you around some of my favorite roads. According to google maps it's 130 miles from Champaign to my house via superslab. Around Rockville there is some decent riding. Of course it's not mountains, but still enjoyable.

Be a long day ride but here in southern Illinois Garden of the Gods, Cave in Rock, Golconda, are good riding areas. Biker friendly bars and restaurants all over this area.

Alton , Grafton area. The great river road. Grafton is very popular. Many bars, wineries, and restaurants. And you got Fast Eddies Bonair in Alton. Lots of good riding in the area.

First off congratulations on the move. Over the years I have enjoyed riding no matter where I have lived. Some better than others but when I'm on the seat it's all good. The roads may or may not be as good as the Seattle area but this country has some fantastic stuff to see. Theres some damn nice riding between Champaign and Peoria and really great riding in northern and southern illinois. Heck your not too far to run down and get yourself a moonburger for lunch. Hope to catch up with you sometime on the road.

Congrats and Sorry to hear all at the same time - Maybe I'll grab SH when he is not wearing the Brass and shaking down high school kids and we'll roll down and help you find some stuff - Gotta be SOMETHING down there we can have fun with - Or, roll North and I'll show you my country up here - Maybe even make a run of it for Iowa and ride the River - Wisc is close and there are some great country roads up there too

Thanks for the responses; a lot more positive than I thought they would be. I think I've been pretty spoiled out here in the Northwest, but I'm looking forward to doing some exploring. Sounds like I might have to ride just a bit further to get to the good stuff. I guess cruise control will finally get some use.

So I'll be in Champaign in a week, and my bike will be there in 2 weeks. I know absolutely no one out there so I'll post in this thread to see if anyone would like to ride. Thanks again.
