Cross country trip

Well, I just got back from my cross country trip. I rode 9,891 miles in 8 weeks through 27 states. Me and my buddy did this camping all the way. We tried to stay in town or state campgrounds because they are cheap (one was $4/night), but we made sure they had showers. When we were near big attractions like New Orleans or San Antonio we stayed at KOA. That also gave us an opportunity to wash cloths. I have to say there is so much to see in this country, to see it all during our trip it would have taken years. We stood on the corner of Windslow, AZ, road the Pacific Coast, Through Yellowstone, Black Hills, Mt. Rushmore. We even took a coal fired ferry across Lake Michigan. Way too much to tell, but I urge my fellow riders to travel. By the way, route 58 in California is a great ride with many twists and turns and compares to Iron Mountain Road in SD.

Good for you!!!! I too do long rides every summer. Did 8000 miles last summer in one month and 7200 miles this year. I concur, get out there and ride and see what America has to offer on the back of a Harley. It is memories that will last a lifetime. What was your favorite part of the trip?

You are fortunate to have a riding companion that you are compatible with. Shared experiences are much more memorable.

I have completed touring the lower 48, two weeks at a time, with one 3 week trip for the western states. I am running out of friends with the stamina for these type of trips and have done several alone because I am the only one who is compatible with me.

I agree that there is so much to see and experience across our nation. I have been checking off the top 100 motorcycle roads in addition to seeing the natural and man made wonders across the states.

Sounds like a dream come true for me. I'd love to do this with my wife, but unfortunately a bad back makes it impossible for her to even consider camping. She can do 500 miles a day on the back of the Ultra, but has to have a bed at night. I've been considering pulling a bunkhouse (Inventory Showroom | Bunkhouse Camper Trailers | Jacksboro Tennessee) or similar trailer but haven't hit the lottery yet or found someone who is ready to pass one on to the younger generation. Good on you for being able to do this.

Life is too short to put up with stupidity. Strive every day to educate someone, including yourself!

That's awesome. As an over the road drive I've made it to 37 states. Seeing it over the hood of a Peterbilt was great. But on a bike I'm sure is much better. I will do it.
