February Trip

Thinking about heading to the Tucson, AZ area in late Feb. Anyone been there or should a guy from Minnesota head some place else for a winter break?

TIA

Welcome to the forum!
Where are you located?
Tucson is OK and it is fairly close to Tombstone which is a neat little place to see but in general it is mostly desert riding which gets a little boring after awhile.
I personally like riding into CA during the winter and once you get out of the desert area of eastern CA and you get into the coastal regions the riding is great, the best riding in CA is north of LA all the way to the Oregon border, it does get a bit cooler the father north you get so cold weather gear or heated gear is recommended.

Tucson has some good places to visit, used to anyway, you can go check out old Tucson where they shot a many of films. You can also go to the base and they used to have tours of the "bone yard" where they have a many of planes and choppers that have been decommissioned. Some of that is pretty interesting.

Oh, and welcome from SW Oklahoma!

Not to hijack but does Phoenix to Vegas in the first week of February sound like a good idea?

Phoenix to Las Vegas isn't a bad trip, it is all desert and it takes about 4 to 5 hours. This trip wouldn't be on my bucket list though but if it is a route to some more adventures it would be cool.

Cool thanks. I'm flying into Phoenix and want to spend a week in Vegas riding and taking in the shows to get away from winter. Any good day rides around Vegas to look for?

I currently live in Tucson and there are some awesome rides to be had in and around the local area. The Pima Air and Space Museum is where you want to go if you are interested in the "boneyard" tour mentioned earlier. It literally takes all day to see the entire place. As for riding, there are too many areas to mention. Mt. Lemon is the southernmost ski area in the USA and a very pretty ride...in the summer. At over 8000 feet in elevation, it wouldn't be too much fun in February! Tombstone is about 90 minutes away and offers lots to do and see if you are interested in wild West history. Bisbee is a bit further south and offers the charm of a small mining town with lots of shops and eateries. Old Tucson Studios is another great ride. Take the road through Gates Pass and the view is spectacular. Venture over to Sentinel Peak at sunset for a view of the city and surrounding mountains you won't ever forget.
I could go on and on, but the idea is there is a lot to do and see here. In fact if you plan to come here, PM me and if we can coordinate schedules I would be willing to show you around. Always up for a ride in the desert southwest!

If you are heading to Vegas from Tucson, head through the town of Parker and Lake Havasu on your way. I love going that route, the scenery is awesome. Stop in Havasu for a day if it happens to be spring break and check out some tittys. That town was always fun.

16FLTRU, is the bar Putney's still standing in Tucson? I used to have a blast at that place long ago every time I was in town. Last November I hit up the airplane graveyard for the day. Truly cool seeing all those air crafts and history!

I have a few days to go from Phoenix to Vegas. Definitely the airplane museum and tombstone. I don't gamble but the strip and a few shows for sure.
