14 states in 11 days

Just got back from an awesome ride out East. Left Holland Michigan on the 11th and spent the first night in Olean, NY. Got up the next day, and rode through New York, Vermont, and into Concord, New Hampshire to camp for the night. Got up the next day, and rode up through the White Mt. National forest. Beautiful ride!! Kept heading NE, and crossed into Maine, and rode to Rangeley. From there, I rode down to Balsam Cove campground just outside of Orland, ME. Spent three nights there. Took one day to ride down to Bar Harbor and explore Acadia NP. Beautiful ride. Rode up to the summit of Cadillac MT. The next day I woke up and rode North up to Jackman in search of moose. Never saw any, (probably a good thing - safety wise) but the road up there was outstanding!! From there, I rode over to Moosehead, then down to Greenville. That was a tough leg. The road was extremely bumpy. Not good for gliding. Woke up Wednesday morning and rode down to Niantic, Conn. Spent the night in a hotel so I could do my laundry. Got up Thursday morning and headed for New York City. While riding down there, I hit construction in Connecticut. I went to downshift, and there was nothing there!! I looked down, and my toe shifter had gone limp. Lol! I pulled over, removed both shifter arms, and put the heel shifter up front to use. Back on the bike, and into NYC. I really wanted to get a picture of the Statue of Liberty, but unbeknownst to me, there is ZERO parking around there, and I didn't dare leave my bike with all the luggage on there. While riding around the city, it became almost impossible to shift my bike. At this point, between the traffic, no parking, and my bike not shifting, I started to lose my cool. I set my GPS for my next campground in New Jersey, and started leaving the city. While at a stoplight, I looked up, and right in front of me stood the Freedom Tower. AWESOME!! I snapped a picture of that. Once in Jersey, I saw a billboard for a H-D dealership. I stopped there, and in no time flat, the great crew at Rahway H-D had me out on the street with a new shifter shaft and toe shifter arm. Awesome customer service. Back on the rode, and stopped for two nights at a KOA in Clarksboro, NJ. Met some new friends, and saw some old friends, and was hungover for two days. Never made it to Philly to explore, but now I have an excuse to go back. Woke up Saturday morning, rode down through Delaware, into Maryland, and stopped to pay my respects at Arlington National Cemetery. VERY powerful place. Glad I got to see it. After seeing that, I got back on the bike and rode up to Big Pool, Maryland, and camped on the Potomac River for the night. As soon as my tent was set up, it started raining. Woke up Sunday to sunny skies. First stop was the Flight 93 Memorial. Again, a VERY powerful place. Lots of people, but you could hear a pin drop, it was that quiet. Was hard to hold back tears. From there, I rode up through the Sproul and Susquehannock State Forests. That ride was AWESOME!! From there, over to Warren to spend the night with my parents. Woke up yesterday morning and hauled ass back home. Overall, great trip. 3900 miles and never had to put my rain gear on. I took lots of pictures, but my phone and laptop aren't cooperating right now. If you have Instagram, look me up at: daveedney. Lots of pics there. Thanks for taking the time to read.

Steel, congratulations on the expedition! It all sounds great except for the part about the shifter shaft. I'm glad that you were able to get that fixed before things got any worse.

Thanks. I had some rain, but zero complaints. Very relaxing trip.

Steel, if you were in Clarksboro you were in my neck of the woods. How do you know about Clarksboro and your friends, are you from there? I am originally from Woodbury. Almost has a house built in Clarksboro. Sounds like a great trip. Mad me want to do something like that.

I was looking for a campground close to Philly. Have a Facebook friend that lives in West Deptford.
