Lone Star Rally, Nov 2nd - Nov 5th

Weather permitting, I am headed out to Galveston TX for the "Lone Star" rally as November can be dicey riding weather in Colorado and New Mexico.

For those of you that have been to this rally, any recommendations? I do see from the maps that Houston seems to love their "toll roads".

-Thanks in Advance!

what kind of suggestions are you looking for? I live in Houston and we go down and get a beach house every year. It's an absolute blast. assuming you coming in I10 you really won't need to take any toll roads. I10 to 45S and you're there. Now depending on the time of day there may be some better ways to get through traffic.

As for the event, tons of vendors, both on the strand and the seawall. and non stop partying! Let me know if you need anything else and maybe you can come hang with us down there. A couple of us on here are going that I know of.

As far as "suggestions", I was curious about any local riding, or should I just plan on staying in Galveston during the rally? Also, are there any "must see" places or events? Should I buy a VIP pass?

I am getting into town later Thursday afternoon, staying at the Perl Inn. Not a great place according to the online reviews, but the price was right for a weekend rally. I plan to head home on Sunday (>1,000 miles, so 1-1/2 day travel time).

It would be great to hook up with people from the area. I am traveling solo unless my brother "mans up" and joins me from Florida. I will send you a PM with my contact info.

-Thanks.

South Texas is straight and flat! No real riding or anything of note to check out (unless you want to go visit Nasa). I wouldn't buy the VIP pass we have a couple friends who do but that just gives you access to rooftops to watch bikes roll down the strip reving! everything is pretty wide open as far as access is concerned. We do a ride on Saturday to surfside (Bluewater Highway) every year to a bar down there have lunch and a couple drinks and ride back it's usually a pretty good sized group and you're welcome to tag along, oh and don't be fooled by the name, there is no such thing as blue water in South Texas!

Pearl In won't be bad like you said it's a rally and it's actually very close to most of the action. we stayed at a house right behind it a couple years ago.

We're going down about mid day Friday with more of the crew showing up later in the evening. I got your PM and will shoot you my number. If you need anything before hand give me a shout, if not let's get up for sure and we'll show you how we do it down here in the Lone Star State!

How long do you want to take to get to the rally. Depending on how you come there is some good riding in Texas and even some good roads around Houston. If you stay to the west of the state until you near I-10 you can hit the sisters then head east. There are some good roads between New Braunfels and Houston between I-10 and 290. Once you hit Houston there is not much except for a straight shot to the beach. Head down to Surfside and ride in on 257. Its straight but a nice ride down the beach.

I plan to take two days to get to Galveston from Colorado Springs. It is about 1050 miles each way. I was planning on taking a route similar to what you described (New Braunfels) on my return trip. I'll adjust the return route a bit. Thanks for the pointer.

I do not see a highway "257" on my map. Is there another name or number?

Right now the weather appears to be holding so I am about 80% for making the ride.

-Thanks

"257" is the blue water hyway, it's actually "county road 257" also known as "san luis pass rd" it's the road from galveston south along the beach to surfside beach and a nice litte ride, a good bar just as you leave galveston is "woody's" a local stilt bar that used to be on the seawall but was moved to the beach and put on stilts to evade hurricane flooding. up hwy 6 from galveston is the galveston co. fairgrounds where one of the largest campgrounds is located and similar to buffalo chip in sturgis with bands and vendors. https://www.facebook.com/BlowoutBikerProductions. i try and make it but i ride with the american legion riders and we escort wounded warriors from san antonio to kemah tx on galv. bay every year the same weekend as the ralley, where they get free sportfishing and other recreeation for free for the weekend. it's a nice 20mi. drive north of galv. on state hwy 146 with lots of veterans showing the colors and displays from all branches.

We're doing a ride on Saturday down Blue Water Hwy to Surfside from Galveston. Meet time is 10:30 should be a good turnout. You've got my number so hit me up when you get here, we'll be there Friday night. Ride safe on the way down!

Snarly,

Thank for the information about "Woody's" and the BlowoutBikerProductions campground. I checked into the campground. They have $20 day passes. I also have a copy of the camp activities during the rally for anyone that is interested (see attached).

Also, my hat is off to you for your support of Wounded Warriors!

Looks like the weather is going to "hold" enough for me to make the ride to the rally. It is snowing today, but supposed to warm up tomorrow and Wednesday. I'll give you a buzz Friday. I get to Galveston early Thursday evening. I hope to see David Allan Coe Thursday evening at 6:00, (God willing and the creeks don't rise" :-).
