Try 181, 105, 209 and the blue ridge parkway. All good rides. 64 is just another busy blacktop.

Even get on I-40 and come down Black Mountain and go back up again. Even some of those interstate curves will make you pucker on the seat!

From Pigeon Forge take 441 through the Smokey Mountain National Park to Cherokee and get on the Blue Ridge Parkway on the south end. Ride about 45 miles toward Asheville and watch for NC 215. You'll know you're getting close when you go past the highest point on the parkway. A good place to stop and a great photo op. When you see NC 215 go to bottom of the ramp turn right and head south.

The ride starts out looking out at the mountains to your left and some amazing scenery....then gas on it and hold on for one of the most amazing rides you've ever had! Follow it all the way to the end at the stop sign, about 20 miles give or take, and turn left on 64. Head east about 1/2 mile and turn right on 178. At first you'll think you like 215 better but give it a minute and you're off again!

When you get to the end at 11 you'll be in South Carolina, don't freak you haven't went that far really. Then find a place to stop for a minute, you're gonna need a smoke. Yeah it's just that good!!

BTW whoever said 64 is just another 2 lane hasn't rode the stretch from Rosman over to Highlands and beyond. Past Highlands is Bridal Falls as well as a lot of other water falls. Yeah it's pretty heavily traveled but its some tasty riding over there.

A good source of maps of the area is....

The guy that makes these maps rides the area daily and is continually upgrading them. When he finds new roads and he updates a map today when you order you get todays map.

209 out of Maggie Valley to Hot Springs is one of the top 5 roads I have ridden. LOVED IT!!! Dragon is over rated but a must do . Cherohala is stunning and the Parkway is really pretty. Foothills Parkway from the end of the Dragon on the TN side up to the Townsend area is a great run also. who am I kidding? they are ALL great runs and Im jealous Im not going this year!!!!!!! Enjoy !!

There this past week had time to kill Saturday so spent 12 hours driving around, WOW, every road outstanding, thought I would rent a bike but rained Saturday . So the cage was best. Already talking to my buddies on going back next year on the bikes.

25 out of Asheville to I think Newport or Newton is a nice scenic road. Had to detour to that one when 40 was shut down due to a big rock slide a few years back.
