Six of my Harley buds and I made that ride in February of 2016. We started in Daytona and rode the coastline all the way to Key West and then onto to the Everglades, Naples and went back to Daytona from Tampa. The Keys were a great ride especially the 7 mile bridge. Key West was a fun time with margaritas and cheeseburgers at Jimmy's Magaritaville. Depending on when you go it might be a good idea to make reservations for a hotel. Also everything in Key West is $$$$. A wonderful ride that I wouldn't mind doing again. Hope you get to go, here is a photo on a portion of the road going to Key West. That was my 2013 Ultra Limited which was totaled this last year on June 9 when I was rear ended by a fellow rider while riding the Jellico Mountain. I'm anxious to get on the road on my new 2017 RGU!

Many times, used to live in Melbourne. US1 or A1A from Daytona to Fort Pierce is tolerable, but be prepared for traffic. Things really get bad south of there due to even more traffic. And heat. And if you go in Love Bug season which is late May, heaven help you. Your bike will be coated with paint eating slime.

In my opinion, that trip is torture on a MC, especially south of Homestead. Nothing much to see from US1 anyway.

You would be better off flying to Miami, renting a convertible, and driving down to Key West. Once there, rent a moped, scooter, or bicycle. Key West is a lot smaller than you may think.

We did the ride in February just to avoid the heat and bugs which turned out being a wise decision. We only had one day we couldn't ride in shirt sleeves.

i live in tampa bay, go to keys on bike frequently. prettiest ride is us27 south to us1. ride through big sugar, big cattle, big orange country. I love the ride...............sometimes i return on the old alligator alley(us41) and up to 29n(panther hwy) through immokalee. beautiful country. whatever you do in Fl riding, try to avoid both coasts. nothing but crazy drivers and beach.

I went in 2016. from Louisiana to Key West. Had a good time. It's all about money down there. If you are military or ex military, you can room at the base there. It's a whole lot cheaper. I am not sure of the details on that but a guy that rode down with me was retired out of the military and he got us a place to stay on base...Saved a small fortune...

Best time to go is in January. Not crowded and mostly Europeans in Key West that month. It was 75 degrees with a warm sun in January.

Attached is the route I took to avoid as much traffic as possible. Coming back north got too close to Naples and stop and go traffic so got off the next exit and got a hotel for the night.

The next photo is me overlooking Lake Okeechobee. The lake is surrounded by a berm so you can only look at the lake at parking lots and when on bridges over canals.

You can drink on the street in Key West.

Don't park two bikes in one metered parking spot. You will get a ticket.

You have to try Conch Fritters and Key Lime Pie while there.

If you want a photo of your bike at the southern most point, you need to get up at the crack of dawn before the tourists line up. I didn't make it.
