New Orleans

Wife and I are leaving OKC next Saturday for Gulf Shores. Going through New Orleans on the way. Neither one of us have ever been there. I've pretty much decided I want to be in and out of there before dark, something tells me I don't want to leave my bike unattended there after dark.

We watch way to much diners drive in and dives and are gonna hit a couple while we are there. I guess my question is, what is there that we should really see ? Other than the touristy crap. Any cool, monuments buildings ?
I know as we leave I wanna ride across that super long bride over Lake Ponchitrain.

Jackson Square is pretty cool.....The French Quarter at night is a happnin place...lots of great food in N.O.

The wife and I are leaving for Pedido Key, FL next sunday. This is just inside FL state line east of Gulf Shores/Orange Beach....But we are taking the cage....This is her vacation pick....my picks this year are Gypsy Tour/Shark Week lll , Eureka Springs, AR and Crusin' The Coast in Biloxi. (all 3 on the RG of course)

PM Hutmo about the beautique hotel they stayed at last year in N.O. if you want to stay a night.

Nawlins is a helluva place to go if you know WHERE to go and NOT go. Stay at the Marriott on Canal. Covered parking for the bike and attended. Grab dinner at Mr B's on Iberville and Royal, take in some of the bands in the bars in the quarter. Dont go north of Bourbon!!! From there all the way south to Decatur , you are fine. Stroll Jackson Square/French Market in the afternoon, check out all the street performers. Grab breakfast before you head out at the Old Coffee Pot in the quarter. All this is walking distance from the MArriott on Canal. Loosen up, have some fun, take it all in and be a carefree kid again . No better town to do that than Nawlins!!!

If you're heading east towards Gulf Shores on I10, you won't be on that "super long bridge over Lake Pontchartrain", you'll be on the 5 mile bridge between New Orleans east and Slidell. From New Orleans (Metarie, actually), if you're getting on the super long bridge (Lake Ponchartrain Causeway-approx 24 miles), you'll be going north toward Mandeville and I12. You can still get back on I10 at Slidell but it will be about 45-50 miles out of the way.
