110th anniversary trip to Milwaukee

Just got back from a road trip to the anniversary party. Went from SW Florida to Massachusetts to meet up with three buddies for the ride to Milwaukee. Along the way my battery gave out. New battery at Noto's H-D in Plains , PA for $170 and $38 to install (choke). From Mass we traveled to Milwaukee. Large crowd, lots of bikes, long lines for factory tour and Museum lots of tee shirt venders and no parts venders (i.e. J P Cycles, Eastern performance, etc.). Fairgrounds was controlled like a fair although we did see a few good bands. Beer and food huts. Definitely not like Sturgis. I parted company with my buddies, they went back to Mass and I returned to Florida. Total 4346 miles, average 45 mpg. The last day I did 900 mies and ran into some serious rain. I did use some oil, don't know where it went and also my primary chain tensioner let go because I can hear the chain rapping the case on idle and on acceleration Time to open her up and see whats wrong also drain all fluids, clean filters and inspect.

Did the ride from SC. 2059 miles total , 940 each way, 2 day cruise up and back. Passed way too many bikes on trailers once I got within 5 hrs of Milwaukee. Surprised at how few bikes I could clump up with on the way to and from. The Celebration was way more family oriented than I expected. Kind of reminded me of a state fair without any fried Pepsi. RUBs at the hotel would park all around the front door under the overhang and in the bike wash area as if their precious chromed under mileaged bike might melt in the dew. Cigars and flasks in the hotel parking lot with most lights out by 10pm; WTF? And all the riders w flip flops and flown in babes with boutique wear just kind of blew it for me. Missed the lottery to ride in the parade. $10 per bike parking per day at Summerfest was an insult; they should have had free HOG parking; what a scam. Don't regret it. Live and learn. Next time I'll camp away from the festivities and not bother buying an H-D ticket, then steer clear of the main event and enjoy all of the local stuff. At least I got my bike striped and ordered some Cyclesmiths bag extensions at a good price. Two RGs on a trailer on the way back; sorry if you're a member "Quiet John" but I'm calling you out as your bike had a name on the tour pak that I could remember. There were others too. Hats off to those on Sportsters, Super Glides and Softails who bungeed all but he kitchen sink on to get there.
Not a rant, just an honest evaluation from a first timer. Oh yeah, got my Mean Mug on the day before I left on my ride up!

Didn't go to Veterans park, no need, but sorry I missed the real vendors.

You're right, lots of bikes on trailers. Can't blame some of them. I'd bring the RV vs paying $300 a night for a hotel.

Next time not buying a pass to the summer fest grounds. Just going to hang out and check out all the local stuff. Had more fun doing that

I ran into a group of Italians who also attended the 110th celebration in Rome. They shipped 28 bikes to the states and continued their party here!

Our trip from the Seattle area to Milwaukee was just a little over 4500 miles round trip, with 10 total days of riding to and from. We hit rain three times. Once each around Bismarck SD, Bozeman MT, and Wenatchee WA. Other than that, it was pretty damn hot most of the way there and back.

I have no idea what my MPG was, and honestly, I really don't care. I know it uses more running 80 rather than 65, but that's the way it goes.

Some of the best things I saw there were: H-D Museum, Doobie Brothers concert, and the finals of the motor officer riding skills competition. The motor officer competition was amazing - their skills are off the chart.

It was a great trip and a pretty amazing celebration. The people of Milwaukee really care about this. It was a far bigger thing to the locals than I thought it would be. It was front page news in the local paper every day. All the newscasters on the local stations had on H-D motorclothes every day. Heck, they even broadcast the entire parade live on TV!!
