I'm hoping that someone with a Vivid Black Street Glide or Road Glide Custom has upgraded their saddlebag latche covers and has their stock Vivid Black latch covers laying around somewhere.
Let me know if you would like to get rid of them or know anyone that does!
thanks!
You're probably better off finding a local powdercoater to do your stock latches. Or follow Chain's thread and rattlecan 'em. Gloss black is an easy color to match.
Go to a local paint jobber, get a can of black self etching primer
and have them make up a can of Dupont Vivid Black spray, it will
match up very well, better than powder coat.
Then get a can of doorjam clear, or if they have it, special hard high 2x gloss
clear in the can, it's hard to find, and doorjam will do well for this application.
Now skuff up the chrome with some red scotchbright which will dull the finish to
a satin like look and remove the outer layer of chrome, then clean with a degreaser
from the paint store, usually they will put some in a qt can for you for little money.
Now hang them up, clean tacked and shoot two coats of self etching primer
let it flash off properly and then hit it with the basecoat vivid black.
I like to let the paint setup and flash properly then hit it with the doorjam
clear two medium wet coats, doing it this way you can pull off any other chrome doodads
you like and paint them, including front forks which can be done on the bike, hand levers and covers for
switches so they look nice and shiny vivid black vs hd dull....
DUDES!!!! i know your trying to help me out here, but my thread is not- how do I paint my latches vivid black?
