WV ride/M&G Suggestions welcomed.

We were going to take a ride over into WV on Labor Day wknd but Issac decided he would change those plans so we changed the date to Sept 8th & 9th.

I know nothing of the area but found some info on a WV tourism site. It gave several different motorcycle rides and I thought this one looked & sounded interesting. Its described as a much better ride than the Dragon. Also, one of the stops along the way is to the historic Civil War era Trans Allegheny Lunatic Asylum which is open for tours and ghost hunting expeditions.

This is a map I got from that site outlining the ride.

We would love to do a meet & greet as well. So if anyone from the area has suggestions on things to do, eat or see, lets hear em. And we'll decide where to meet up.

Route 16 is awesome. I suggest if it's going to be wet to wait for dry weather on it though, it becomes very slick from the coal dust (haven't experienced the wet conditions but was told over and over from friends that have).

16 is great all the way down into NC.

Rode it all back in June.

I'm in Tracy!!! There are so many rides and they are all great. I would suggest taking in rt 60 through Hawks Nest (over and under New River Gorge Bridge) to Lewisburg up US 219 to the Highland Scenic Hwy. Then over to Elkins and the Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum in Weston. Go back to the WV Tourism sight and look at the Southern rides. It's the last one combined with the one you posted.

Be careful, STUPID doesn’t care what direction it comes at you from!!!

+1, if weather or cicumstance causes you to push it back another week to the 15th Im in as well..I have to work the 8th. Isaac looks like it may screw up my BRP trip this weekend though Im still gonna wait a couple days to decide....the model they were showing in Chicago last night it has the storm going straight north thru here and it being dry in Va., soo we'll see.

BTW when I got my bike back the other day I rode 421 south out of Berea to Manchester, I got turned around in Manchester when I got gas and ended up in London. 80 was so good across there I couldnt tell I was on the wrong road, BUT going south on 421 was getting better and better and the first sunny day home I will be back and get to the snake!

Couldn't agree more. Riding the "Midland Trail" as Route 60 is referred to by locals is a great ride. River views, waterfalls, a lot of road side stops. How are you riding up from Brandenberg? If you go Ky-WV through the Huntington area Rt 2 is a nice alternate between Huntington and Point Pleasant with some interesting stops. One in particular is Hill Billy Hot Dogs http://www.hillbillyhotdogs.com/ I actually did a review for The Rt 60 ride a few years ago on this site http://www.motorcycleroads.us/roads/wv_us60.html . Also of note, Pocahontas County as mentioned before. If you plan an overnight stay, I'd suggest Snow Shoe Ski resort. You can see beautiful views from the mountain, check out the Cass Railroad at the bottom of the mountain and see many other sites nearby. My parents actually own a cabin in that area and we visit often when I'm CONUS. Hope I can join up with you guys once I'm back at Knox...The countdown is 99 days as of today!

Almost Forgot

If that particular weekend isn't set in Stone, you might go on the weekend of 20 October. Thats the weekend of Bridge Day at the New River and near the peak for fall colors in the Mountains. Sorry for blabbering but I LOVE this area. I grew up riding and visiting here.

Wish I knew you were gonna end up in London, I would have sent you to a great hotdog place called The Rootbeer Stand down the rd in Corbin. I lived in London for 15 yrs before I moved here.

Isaac screwed with my Labor Day weekend plans as well. It appears it will be headed straight towards St. Louis right on Friday and Saturday. I might have tried to join you on this otherwise.

Oh well, we really do need the rain. Farmers and Ranchers around Missouri are dumping their livestock because there is absolutely nothing to feed them, and no water for them.

Not sure what I'll be doing for the weekend now Might just have to throw the family in the pickup and do a Cager Run for BBQ in KC. Anybody know a good BBQ joint in KC

In theory, Theory and Reality are the same. In reality, they are different.

Wow, I'm sort of jealous. I've been to Hawks Nest in a 4 wheeler and a fabulous road. Rte 19, if memory serves me correct, was the most treacherous road in America. Use to run big trucks down from NW Pa to points south. My family reunion is in Webster Springs every August and hope that I can start making more often. Have a great and safe ride!!

SOLD-07 Black Pearl FLRT w/ Black Pearl inner fairing, Stage 1, HD driver backrest, 7.25" J&M Rokkers, Kenwood KMR-330, 15" Windvest, painted Sanchos Wings, tatyou2 filler strips and a little extra chrome
