O'Rourkes has some of the best food. The Brew house sucks. Unless you like that froofroo designer beer of the day. I asked for a Guiness and instead of offering up something similar I just got a "we only serve house beer"... I had a water with the microwave quality food.

An interesting quirk in Pennsylvania is that you can't smoke in a restaurant, but you can in a tavern. I don't smoke, but if you do, this may be of use. Taverns don't allow customers under 21 years of age.

Here are some random thoughts - use what you can.

The Lincoln Highway\Rt 30 goes through Gettysburg. It was the first road built across the country for automobile travelers. Search the Web for interesting stuff.

When I ride in the area, I usually don't eat in the historic area - its kind of crowded. One place I like is Earl's Inn Pub & Grille has good food and an old school atmosphere (Not a biker bar, but a local hangout\bar)
2806 York Road (Lincoln Highway) Gettysburg PA 17325

Rt 30\Lincoln Highway west out of Gettysburg is a great ride. West of Gettysburg is the home of the Mountain House Bar & Grill. It sits on a summit 2,123 feet above sea level. Outside deck overlooks the valley and is a great view. There is actually a perch adjacent to the bar where people launch hang gliders. Great place to grab a beer and listen to music on a Sunday afternoon. Not the best dining option, but will do in a pinch. 18734 Lincoln Highway McConnellsburg, PA

The ride up the mountain and down the other side has great views and good curves.

Less than an hour past the Mountain House is the Omni Bedford Springs Resort. Lunch there is a bit pricey, but well worth the visit. It dates back to the 1790s. I'd schedule some time to tour the main building and look at the memorabilia. Lunch can be had ain the new clubhouse adjacent to the golf course or in a Tavern-style dining option in the main building. The place may looks snobby, but it isn't. The folks are very welcoming even when riding.

Gettysburg gets the most attention, but don't discount going to the Antietam Battle Field.

Sorry for the long response - but you asked. Have a great trip. If you need more information, send me a message with a phone number and we can talk.

Safe journeys.
Emil

There is a Microbrewery on the west side of town that has good beer, I can't remember the name of it but the beer was good so check it out. I didn't eat anything there so I can't say how the food is. I was only there for shark week so I don't know much about the area.

First, you should plan a trip West on Rt. 33 to see the Flight 93 Memorial. 2nd, you're in between Steeler and Eagle country. Leave your Patriot stuff at home. There's a lot of good riding in and around the Gettysburg area and down into MD on the backroads. I've led groups that have stayed in G'burg for 4 days several times. The traffic in-town can be bad, but it is a must see area. Check out the three covered bridges in Frederick County, MD and the 2 or 3 near Gettysburg.

The Gettysburg dealer sucks for sales and service. Just sayin'.

I would highly recommend taking one of the guided bus tours. The tour guides really know the history and can point out some of the more interesting parts of the battlefield.

I need to send a shout out to Emil1 for this informative post. My sons and I have been to Gettysburg several years ago for a good history lesson. I regretfully say that I knew nothing about the Antietam Battle Field. Thank you Emil1 for posting this , I could not stop reading and learning about this battle and it will be on my destination next time I get out east.

Good reading here folks
