Thumbs down Laughlin Run & AZ bike week

A buddy and I are making plans to attend both the AZ bike week and the Laughlin Run, any others out there planning on attending? If there are a few going, we might organize or meet out there for a get together. I'm really looking forward to the Rock house get together.

My buds and I always hit the Laughlin River Run. Can't do AZ bike week, but if we can work something out, I'm all for it. We can talk about plans on the Rock House ride.

Did you give yourself the thumbs down?

What if the Hokey-Pokey really is what it's all about?

I go to Laughlin almost every year from the start in 1983. I'll be at the Tropicana Express.
I now don't stay for the weekend. Too many nuts and Vegas Metro is very thick. So, I will arrive on Tuesday and leave Friday.
The Run organizers make the vendors be open on Wednesday to set up at the run. Now the Casinos are starting to see that there are those, like me, that are arriving early. There is now things that are happening earlier, starting on Thursday, This gives Wednesday for checking the vendors. Then go to shows or rides.

I hope there are some that will be arriving earlier than Friday. Just Have Fun, and Ride Safe.

I still have to cement when I will leave too and I'm still picking where to stay. I thought it would be cool to hook up and shoot the sh-t etc. If we all post to the thread when your leaving and staying that would be cool.

I also normally stay at the Tropica Express. They offer secure parking - extra cost of course, but some peace of mind. And they offer Nurse Betty and her special brand of alcoholic mix (which I never touch, of course)I can't get up there until Thursday, but will probably stay until Saturday or Sunday.

Ok, I stayed at the Tropicana Express the last 2 times, it was a little smoky, so I was checking around to see what was a good deal and central. I'll see you guys this weekend and we'll talk.

I would not waste my time at the Laughlin River run because the police & the businesses ruined it for the bikers IMO . The businesses just over charge but we expect that but you would think that the casinos would be reasonable because of the increased gambling revenue they receive but they want to gouge us too . The main fun spoiler is the police , Clark county (NV) & Mojave county (AZ) look at the river run as $$$$ and both county's bring in as many police officers as they can . The police harass the bikers even to the point of harassment in the county park ( Davis Dam Park ) campgrounds , sobriety road checks starting @ 10 or 11 in the morning and going on through out the day . The attendance for the river run has dropped every year for the last 6 years that I been there & I didn't go last year at all and I only went 1 day in 2009 just to see the vendors . All the major vendors don't go to the river run anymore because bikers are not showing up like they use to ( due to police harassment ), almost all the vendors on the AZ side of the river are gone & there are only small vendors on the NV side . LOOK @ the Laughlin River Run web site and they Don't have any bands listed at all and it is only 10 weeks till the event starts . The only thing I see on the web site is hotel info & vendor apps but the only good thing about bikers not going to the river run is the casinos are lowering the price of the rooms .

Wow Ironmark, I see you have issues with the way river Run has changed. I continue to go there because I still have fun. I went last year and there are still plenty of vendors on the Navada side. I like to gamble and see the entertainment. One of our riders did get stopped coming out of the Casino paraking lots but I believe they were trying to potect the bikes from theft, every year some are stolen. To each his own, I look at the glass as half full not empty. Ride safe....

I agree with firemanvic. ironmark must have gotten up on the wrong side this morning. I find all of the major vendors and lots of independent ones at the vendor areas. The Casinos have even started to offer shows starting in the middle of the week because of the bikers that come early. The only thing I found has stopped is Harley has stopped the Pin Stop. I called and they said it was because the economy has forced them to limit the number of show they send out.

I don't stay for the weekend because of the crowds. There are just too many. If you find there are not, you must be going to a different location?

Anyway, ride safe and have fun wherever you ride.

I'm with ironmark, LV Metro, and the business practices in the area has taken the fun out of the River Run. I'm not talking about riding drunk, that's no good. Since the crap went down at Harrah's they treat us all like we're about to start shooting at each other any minute.

The casinos are still gouging for rooms, and the slots and odds are tighter than an 18 year old...well they're really tight. I'm not really into gambling anyways. And it seems like it was always the same old vendors.

I've been several times, though not since '04, and quite frankly the riding around there got to be old hat. How many times can the burros up in Oatman be entertaining? It's just not that great anymore, especially if it's 106 out.

If you still have fun there, that's great, but just because others disagree, doesn't mean they got up on the wrong side of the bed. We just see it differently.
