So, I am 5'11......ish (5'10 after the back surgery) and 200 lbs of solid Fuscle.......Fat Muscle - The OL has packed on a few too and we both know we could do better - We laugh and say 'We Are Happy, Who Cares, Pass the Dorittos" and laugh - Well, she ran into an ex-coworker at a Retirement party this past weekend who dropped over 50 lbs by just eating better and cutting out Carbs - You see where this is going.........fuck me.......Carbs are in EVERYTHING - We have a 14 yr old and a 12 yr old which means we have a closet full of snacks or as I call it, "Freshman Dorm Room Stoner Food" and I SWEAR the damn cabinet speaks to me
If you hear in the news about a "Chicago Man who took a long ride off a short Pier" its cuz I miss my Snacks
This sucks..........FUCK IT........I'm getting Lypo
Hang in there, Brother.
If you need to lose some pounds just cut back on the intake and do a little exercising.
Taking a nightly walk with the Mrs. after dinner may help you both.
Mike U.
Yeah, I do go to the Health Club a few times a week for Cardio and Stretching (still fighting back issues and will for life) but that does nothing when I come home after and knock back a Bacon Dbl Cheeseburger and wash it down with Cheesy Tots.........mmmmmmmm, Cheesy Tots
We did walk around the hood a bit after dinner but now with the Kids back in school, post dinner is Homework Time........which I do not understand AT ALL
You can do it. IMO, mind over matter and getting thru the first couple weeks is key. March 15, 2018 I was in same (worse) shape -- 5'11" and 220-225#. I'd been thinking for a long time how crappy I felt and how much processed food I ate (and loved) -- pizza, chips, more chips and pizza, pasta, beer/gin, etc. And lots of it. A 4 day stomach flu pushed me over the edge and I decided to give an honest effort to eat better. I didn't follow a "diet" but committed to not eating all things processed. I quit those things cold turkey and went to meats, fruits, vegetables, nuts, eggs. Little to no carbs or dairy. Probably a combination of Paleo and Keto but not really following either program. I cut out the big meals and eat a lot more snacks. I also cut out the booze. Unfortunately, I haven't yet mixed in any exercise. My OL says that's next. Today I'm at about 165 and feel so much better! My friends think I've lost my mind (they miss my gin & tonics) but playing with the kids in the yard, climbing a flight of stairs, putting on my boots are no longer torture. I do miss alot of those foods, but I feel so much better that (for now) I can do without.
All serious Steady Eddie, what I did from my military days and now is cut off all the whites.....Baked Potato, potato chips, White rice, White bread, White pasta, etc....you got this....walk at least 30min every other day for now, increasing further and faster later...I'm sure those lbs will disappear....Good luck brother....
I did this back in the spring. Cut out sugar and almost all carbs. The first 2 days sucked, headaches and tired. After that, all was good. I slept much better, had more energy, and best of all, my pants fit again after about 2 weeks. I cheated on the weekends though, but not in excess amounts. Coupled with exercise, I lost 11-12 lbs, all in the gut, in about 2 weeks. I have always lifted weights 4-5 times a week, and I kept that going during the diet too, so that helped some. I plataued at about 190lbs, and couldn't lose any more.
Been there too. January of this year the OL decided to lose weight, which in turn, means I lose weight. To top it off, she has a gluten allergy so she (we) are also gluten free. And I’m not complaining. I wasn’t over weight but wasn’t a scronny little bastard either. I feel better, that’s for sure. And I have a lot more energy than before. We basically just eat meats, vegetables and nuts. The first few weeks are an absolute bitch. But it gets easier the longer you do it. Just stick with it. You got this!
Eddie, I went from 155, where I had been since highschool to 235 in one winter! Went through one of my bad spells after 2nd brain surgery, couldn't walk; which is the "only" exercise that I can now do. Dropped caloric intake and started walking again when I could; it took 5-6 years but I have now been at 165 for 3.5 years. Slow and easy bro. YOU CAN DO THIS. You'll feel like a new man! Praying for ya dude
Hey Eddie, look up Paleo/Primal diet and also Keto diet. Either one will help melt the pounds off for sure! Takes getting used to at first, but helped me a lot!
I started low carb and general better eating about 5 months ago. The last 2 months have been keto. Its hard, especially with 30 or less carbs a day. In the last 5 months I have lost 50lbs and still going down.
Feeling your pain brother, but reaping the benefits of going full Keto recently. Retired from the military 14 years ago and without the mandatory PT, I seemed to relax into "retirement mode" (OK, I got lazy as hell)! I was told by a doctor that I would benefit by going gluten-free as well. I remember thinking that they may as well dig a hole and push me in!
I remember thinking that the whole "gluten-free" and Keto movements were more in line with hippie fads!
Since using Keto around mid August I've dropped 23 pounds. Amazing how it feels in the back, the knees, etc...
Those cravings sure as hell haven't gone away, but as fast as the weight is coming off I think I'll see where this goes...
Good luck to ya. I’m about to start the same journey. What’s the old saying I’m not overweight just too short for my weight. If I was only 9’6” I’d be perfect.
After my 2nd grandson was born (12 years ago) I quit smoking after 3 packs/day and I thought it was the hardest thing I ever did, but sugar is by far the hardest addiction I have ever faced. I still eat like a teenager, but I'm not half as active as I used to be.
Hang in there, Steady, it requires discipline and keeping your mind off the subject.
Just focus on something else (like Sofia Vergara) and tell the better half you need more exercise.
3 months ago I started eating healthy because my lipid panel came back abnormal. cut out about 85% of sugars from my diet and introduced more vegetables in my diet and zero carbs for dinner. I've lost 23lbs. You can do it!!!!
Who would have thought back in 2016 when I was researching (Google) Road Glides and ever search pointed me here that I would sign up and begin discussing Health Topics.......only to find a bunch of goof balls like me going through "Life' as well - Thx again Lads - It is inspiring to me to see that I am not the only one who needs to make a change (because the OL is....) and even more inspiring to hear of you fucks who did and the positives from it
I have fought it for years now, telling the OL..."I'm Good.....Do we Have anymore of those Microwave Burritos?" and then wondering why I am not seeing a change - She has been politely nudging me down this path and now she herself is hard charging it....it reminds me of this
Oh and the kids are having a BALL fucking with me about it too.............lil shits........Christmas will be here in no time and Daddy don't forget !!! (who am I kidding, I am a push over and they know it....they'll get spoiled like they always do)
It sucks, but do it. I need to do more, I'm starting to slip. But 3 and a half years ago, after having my chest split open, a vein ripped from my leg and cut into pieces to reroute around blockages in my chest I realize I should've listened. I had done some of what I was told, and the doc said it kept the heart attack from killing me but I'm too damn young to have had that happen. Thanks for the kick in the ass to get back on the wagon.
I would say just add 4 times the amount of actual veggies to lunch and dinner than you normally do, but I know some folks don't eat any and consider potatoes, peas, and corn veggies.
Seriously, Veggies are so low in calories that you feel full and cut down on your overall calories greatly.
Also cut out all condiments and go with dry seasonings instead.
When I am on work trips it is the hardest to maintain.
Since I have been in New Mexico I have eaten
Green Chili Cheeseburgers
Green Chili Lasagna
Green Chili Chicken Enchilas
Smoked Brisket and egg burritos
Green Chili Brisket stew
Western Omelets w/green chili
Green and Red Chili Wines
Green Chile Pistachios
Green Chili Dip and chips
A lot of Ice Cream after all that Green Chili food!
Eating a Salmon and Veggie Salad tonight. That should compensate and level me off.
Something I forgot is that you have to be careful of what fruits you eat as well, since your body will naturally convert some fruits into sugar. I think bananas, apples, and pineapple are a couple of examples to avoid. Strawberries, blackberries, and blue berries are ok though I think.
There ya go. Instant gratification. That's the way to do it. Why suffer through it?
I've got a Buck knife and an ol' hoover if'n you need some help.
I think age has something to do with it. When I hit 50, my metabolism went to shit. I can't eat half of the stuff I used to eat without gaining weight. Takes more exercise to get it off too. The good side of this is that groceries are a lot less costly. Takes little of nothing to fill me up.
IT'S A MIND GAME. You gotta be strong!
We need to go shopping as the OL and I are super lazy when it comes to cooking so 90% of our stuff is "Easy to Prepare" which means unhealthy as fuck
SWO - I got one that is Blueberry Flavored and have been shooting that shit 2x a day
I had Bacon, Chicken and Tabouli Salad last night for dinner........the hardest part is not having the Oreos and Milk after...........all and all..........I think I somehow GAINED weight?
I weight two pounds over the weight I enter Basic training. PT and what you eat. I do however agree that genetics plays a part. VA doctor went back and checked it he had notice my weight never changed.
That cabinet with the junk food in it calls out at times.
