You're always gonna get the fine fuzz on the drain plug. I would pull the outer primary off and inspect the compensator. You'll be amazed how much wear there will be on that which will contribute to the drain plug fuzz

I am interested in what BDL has to say when they finally do respond to your email about the noise in your primary. We have installed about a dozen of these at my shop over the past year or so and have not had any complaints or customers return with issues. My question for those of you that have installed the BDL unit, are you using a new OEM bolt when installing? If I am not mistaken the manual says don't reuse the old bolt (this coming from memory of always using a new bolt, I will consult my manual tomorrow to be sure)

On my 88 twin cam bikes never had much build on the primary drain plug.
My biggest concern is the occasionally clung shutting off the bike and comes from the primary.

BDL supplies a new bolt. Their instructions say to use it. What I found when I opened the primary back up was the bolt was loose. I retorqued it and the noise did get quieter but was still there

Were these all installed on a stock set up's ? Curious to see how this will affect the OEM crank bearings along with the Main bearing over time.

I just sent another email to BDL tech support regarding my concerns as they didn't reply to the first one I sent over a week ago. I'm tempted to reinstall the SE comp I took out to make sure it isn't engine related which I doubt because I ride it hard and nothing has changed as I would expect it to if it's engine related. I'm also contemplating switching brand and type of primary fluid I've been using cuz it's costing me a fortune to keep opening the primary up

The first time I opened mine up for noise the bolt was really loose, I forgot to mention that in my earlier post. I cleaned the bolt and crank threads and I put lots of red loctite this time instead of two drops. I torqued to 100 then back a turn then to 140ft/lb. I let the loctite cure for a couple days before I put it all back together. I started out only getting the rattle at idle in neutral and only when hot. I've got about 1000 miles on it and it has started to rattle at low speed in first gear when taking off. I heard noise the last time I rode up to 55mph so I'm pretty sure the bolt is loose again. I'm going to ride it and if it is noisy when cold I'm pulling it apart again.
I don't know much about bolts but I wonder if when the bolt is reused it doesn't hold as tight and just loosens back up...

I personally think the bolt loosens up because the "Nylatron" washers get soft when hot. Hopefully BDL will reply to my second email. If they don't I'll start the return process and reinstall the SE comp I took out

First of all I would like to say I talked to somebody at Vulcan Works on the phone today and had a lot better experience then the e-mail route. the person I spoke to was real interested in what I had to say and even offered to buy my old compensator so he can take measurements and address this issue. So I will run it up to him tomorrow seeing as there only 100 miles away. I got to put some miles on her yesterday and shifting is so much smoother. I do have a noise that I never heard before but isn't that always the way fix one thing then find something else. It's not a constant noise so im not to concerned about it.

I have gotten to the point of saving and reusing my Primary Fluid. Lately, it has not been getting too many miles on it. I usually get about 75% of it back. I also use HD fluid as the folks at Barnett specifically say Do NOT use synthetic with their Kevlar Clutch. Still, at $10.00 a quart, it adds up.
