I don't know about the 2009, but the "Parade Mode" doesn't work that way on my 2012.
I have to do it prior to starting the engine. With the ignition on twist the ttle forward and hold it. The Cruise Control will light up momentarily after approximately five seconds. If it lights up green, the parade mode is enabled, if it's red parade mode has been disabled.
After enabling it, operation is automatic. If oil temp goes over 210 degrees (IIRC) and bike is stationary with 1) clutch pulled in OR 2) tranny in neutral then the rear cylinder will be deactivated. Once throttle is moved or clutch handle is being released rear cylinder is reactivated.
Even here in Central Texas it doesn't kick in all that often. The only times it's ever kicked in for me was when the ambient temps were over 100 degrees and I was running in traffic.
2012 FLTRU Vivid Black, thank you very much. And with more black to come....
