13' CVO 110 engine noise

My buddy has a 13', 110 CVO with 1,300 miles on it. Had the dealer do X-pipe, slip ons and dyno the bike two weeks ago, only rode about 50 miles this Saturday and the temp was close to 95 here in mass and he started hearing this noise from the rear cylinder area that is very noticeable from 10' away and as you rev it the rap/noise increases then decreases as it comes back to idle.

Dealer says its nothing to worry about and doesn't seem concerned, but the handful of us that are listening to this rap noise are very concerned as it doesn't sound normal.

Any of you 110" owners out there hear this type of similar rapping noise from the rear cylinder area? Note: he didn't have this noise for the first 1,300 miles and once it was tuned on the dealers dyno it has become very apparent about 50 miles since the service.

I don't have the noise like you are talking about nor have I in the past 17000 miles.

A new bike shouldn't make noise like that. They get on them hard when they Dyno them. Hopefully it's not what mine did, but he's under warranty. I'd take it to another dealer or an independent for a second opinion.

Could it be piston slap? Or the crank is spun?

That's what mine was, but I won't speculate that his problem is the same, but its certainly possible.

He rode it tonight and it didn't make any noise until it heated up driving it for 10 miles, he was heading towards the dealer so pulled into service and they heard it rapping. They didn't admit there's 100% something wrong but said he shouldn't ride it home until they get into it. So for now it's still TBD.

I had the same thing, on my 12, turned out to be a bad lifter. It's in the shop right now having all the lifters replaced. Also there can be a knocking noise that comes from the transmission where the clutch cable goes it. If that is it it's normal and there is a TSB about it.

So it's been at the dealer for 5 days, " can't replicate sound " so he goes in, takes the bike down the road, 5 mims later comes back to dealer with it rapping away again... Dealers only want to work on things that are paying them $99 per hour, apparently warranty rate must be to low!

The dealer probably didn't ride the bike or let it warm up before trying to fix it. Sometimes you have to over emphasize to the service writer what's wrong and the conditions that cause it, otherwise they think they've fixed the problem when they haven't.
