Long Way Round

Two English actors document a ride around the world in 2004 ..

Very good series , watched it on Netflix .

9 episodes , don't waste your time on the first two installments , they are of the blokes prepping for the journey ..

Next is Long Way Down , just starting with it ..

I have a great deal of wanderlust in me and these type shows do not help me at all .. I think it is fantastic that people are able to do it .. Would be even more fantastic if I could do it ..

They talk about it in the series , that anyone can do it . I say sure gimme the money you guys spent on three Beemers and two support vehicles with several hundred thousand in video equipment and I'll do it as well .. Oh and the doc and guides along the way to boot ..

Still highly recommended ..

If kids are watching , be aware of lots of F bombs and other language that may be in appropriate for them ...

I watched them both and wondered at the adventure, daring and danger. All the support that they were with did not make the journey easy - they hit some really tough parts. Sponsors were responsible for much of the cost (BMW provided the bikes after their first sponsor pulled out believing that the route was doomed to failure). Bike adventure at its best IMO!

True didn't make it any easier , but nice to know back up is a sat phone call away .. Yeah BMW handed them the bikes and I'm sure Mitsubishi handed over the support vehicles as well ..

Other than that , it would be nice to tell work that we'll see you in four months ..

Wonder if the KTM's would have made it .. I believe that may be why they backed out ..

The BMW GS has always been the large displacement off road bike against which all others are judged ..

I'm ready to go , how bout you ?

One of the bikes on Long Way Round had a MAJOR failure...

One of the interesting things I saw was when all the [email protected]@@ hits the fan someone shows up. How real that was is a question I had. After the wife had been in a few Russian Block countries she commented on how willing those people are to give talk and give to others what little they have.

My kids thought that was a cool thing to be able to do, drive around and then down the world.

I'd love to do it but don't think I'd last that long fighting the sand and manhandling the bike. Never done off-road riding so my technique would be non existent. Maybe if I was even 10 years younger.

Sometimes it's good to live vicariously thru someone else's adventures.

I enjoyed that as well as the second one a long way down where they road through Africa. True, they have a very well supported effort but it is still a great adventure and they do show the good, bad and ugly. Hog magazine had an article about a guy doing something similar on a roadking I think.

Loved it..

..and I'm looking forward to watching the Long Way Down - Will be a nice series to watch over winter period.

Following watching the 1st series I started following some cool ride reports from the adv forum.
