Question for Dragula Owners

Do any other Dragula owners have a problem with heat given off the rear cylinder pipe?

Let me state up front that I am not trying to bash Frank. I think the Dragula makes amazing power, looks great and sounds better. Its just that i am getting tired of the back of my right calf being mildly to medium uncomfortably hot when I am riding.
Momma and I rode about 150 miles on Saturday. Momma was wearing some kind of pants that were longer than shorts, shorter that regular pants (I have no fashion sense) along with Sneakers and shorty sox. When we got back I noticed a red mark on the front of her upper ankle. When I asked her about she told me that was where the exhaust was cooking her leg!

I am starting to seriously consider selling my Dragula to get some true duals. Not cause they look or sound cool, and certainly not for their power, but because I am rapidly getting tired of the heat.

Does anyone else have this issue?

When I put mine on, I left off the right side Mid Frame Air Deflector because it needed to be notched to clear the pipe. While that was off, I did feel a bit of heat on my right leg. Once I notched the Mid Frame Air Deflector to clear the pipe, the heat went away. The Mid Frame Air Deflectors actually seem to work as they are supposed to.

One thing I have noticed is they stick out a little further from the engine than the stock pipes, and my leg does get warmer when I stand at a stop light for any length of time, but it is by no means intolerable.

I ride solo, so I have no reference for any heat increase for a back-seater.

Yeh mine get pretty hot at a stop, never considered selling it though. Just more reason to let er eat when the light changes! OldNerd, may have to try the heat deflectors.

Apparently spell check does not check the title???

i don't have those pipes yet but the ones that i do have i learned to wear thick jeans and/or my chaps and never wear shorts or Capri pants (that sounds like what your wife may have been wearing) when riding esp. in warm weather. she can try wearing chaps over her capri jeans if she likes to look cute (which is what i try to do) and be comfortable when she gets off the bike. There should be pictures from SWII of my thighs because i wasn't wearing the right pants :(

I dont think it will make much difference to change to Tru Duals over what you have. I have Tru Duals and on a 90+ day my wifes ankle get hot. Thats why I tell her that jeans and boots are better on real hot days. Does she listen?

I have the Dragula, I guess I was so happy to get rid of the heat from the CAT, until I haven't noticed anything else, I ride solo and have the midframe deflectors also.

No problems with heat on mine. Infact I think they are the coolest running pipes I've ever had,.. and I took off True Dual Vance and Hines to put the Dragula on.

No heat issues with mine. I find them to be a very cool running pipe. While it's easy for me say, living in Alaska; I would never even consider riding a motorcycle while wearing shorts.....I cringe at the thought. So far, I think the Dragula is a great pipe, and Frank is a super guy to deal with!

Hmmm....

I wonder if my 29" inseam puts my calf closer to the pipe?

I was thinking of replacing my v&h dresser duals for 2 into 1's. Maybe not now.

i wouldn't not do it because of the heat. yes, it runs a little hotter, but its not like a/c with duals, blast furnace with 2-1...... it isn't unbearable. and i live in the south where it is hot a lot!

I have a Dragula on my "09 FLTR.It's Procharged putting out 205HP to the rear wheel.I rode this bikeeveryday this summer in northern Il.I've been in stop and go traffic hell I was even in the 4th of July parade.I have experienced minimal heat if any .Maybe your running a little lean. This pipe is by far one of the coolest running pipes i've ever owned.

I was having the same issue with my Bassani , I removed my lower vent doors because fully open they still block about 1/3 of the opening , this solved my problem , you can mark your vent door and cut the access so in the fully open position you are 100% open and the door will still have plenty left to give you protection when closed if you don't want to remove it

+1 on running a little lean

I would confirm your Tmax is working fine. Check to make sure your rear 02 sensor is not faulty.... Bring it to a local shop that can put it up on a dyno and check to see if you Tmax is running the afr table that it shows compare to dyno read out.
02 sensor can go bad. It happens alot on stock HD's with narrow bands... and wide bands also.
Also double check to make sure your Tmax is not of range for autotune it might need more tuning..:D
