Oil weep

hey guys and gals..

Just gutted my Cat on my 2017 RGS put on V & H's mufflers and an Arlene Ness stage 1 intake. I wanted to use my stock air cleaner cover. Problem is the air cleaner is open on the front and the bottom with a K & N air filter. I have been getting excessive residual oil dripping from the bottom of my filter. Its not the Oil from the K and N filter,, this is motor oil... took it to my guy and he said if you ride really hard this will happen but if your just running up and down at 85mph.. it shouldn't mist or drip that much,, he sent an email to Arlene Ness about the situation,, anyone else out there have this kind of problem ?? I didn't have it with my stock set up... thanks,, DAWG

If you have too much oil in there it will vent thru the air filter , and it will also vent thru there when you run hard ..

try filling the oil to half way up the hashmarks on the dipstick , mine is happy just a hair below half

What jack said plus when I had a big sucker it always leaked down the bottom. I like the s&s stealth cleaner way better. Try adding less oil next time

My guy that works on my bike,, called Harley... they said that they were having some problems with some New Motors,, and that its intermittent... so since there is only 2k on the bike,,, its going back to Harley to fix the problem...I know I don't want a bike that I have to constantly baby sit the air cleaner and air box... thats B.S. you pay $28 K on a bike,, you want the darn thing to be perfect... also I read that if you run the oil lower than normal,, its NOT doing what its supposed to do... keep the bike cooler.. the less oil you have the hotter it will run... maybe I was just babied with my Honda VTX 1300 for to long.... arghhhhh. Also you can put catch can's for the excess oil. How about a NEW thought,, how about Harley fixing the Weeping oil mist problem before they sell the bikes... I thought engineers have the ability to design and produce better products... NOT in this case.... Peace out,, DAWG

Update to DAWG's Oil weep from the air box. Talked to the Harley Dealer and they said that on certain 2017 Milwaukee 8 motors they have had this problem. Could be an oil pump problem that they have discovered. Never the less it is under warranty and so in two days when the shop reopens up they will have their plan. just kind of bugs me that a brand New machine has to be in the shop after 2000 miles.... I'll post what the remedy is going to be so others can be cautious with this one... Peace out,,, DAWG

Hmmmmm......seems that someone else on here is having the same issue with the same set up. Except his is really blowing oil out of the a/c. The dealers flagged his bike and voided his warranty.
