Cool Full SE vs VH Exhaust System w/ Stage 2 Sound System

Hi All

Just purchased a 2018 RG Special over the weekend my 45th B-Day gift from the Wife!

My question to all you Experienced RG Owners out there I am considering upgrading the full exhaust system Header Pipes, Slip Ons, Intake and re-mapping you name it. But I am also going to upgrade the two fairing speakers to with the HD Stage 2 Speaker upgrade with 300W amp. My dilemma is, my heart is say up grade the exhaust with the full VH system love the sound but logically I'm thinking if I upgrade the speaker system with the VH system will I have difficulty with the over all listing experience while riding? Or from my understanding that Harley's SE full exhaust system is quieter and my be a better balance between loud exhaust and stage 2 listing quality and the overall experience. My dilemma with the stage 2 speaker upgrade go with VH or a SE full exhaust system. Anyone out there with a full VH system and stage 2 sound system that could provide some input.

Thanks
Mark

Check a thread about 2018 M8 warranty....it's said if it's not a HD street tuner and not EPA compliant (yes I know Canada) then the MoCo will void your warranty....be careful and research. If the warranty isn't an issue....spend away. Again, verify this first. I talked to my dealer about this when I had my bike in for it's 5K service this weekend and they discouraged full exhaust on the M8....which normally they are fine spending my money.

I had a12’ Roadglide Custom . I put on the Vance & Hines Powerduals, Twin Slash slipons , V&H Drak Graphite A/C , & S&S cam , w/TTS ( tuned by Docs Performance ) what a difference. Traded it in for a 18 road glide special. Only thing I did to the new bike was add 4 1/2 “ Rineharts , For fear of voiding my warranty. My stereo on the 12 ‘ was a JL audio 400 W amp, Focal 165 in the fairing & Focal 690’s in the speaker lids ( waste of $$$ IMO) . The new bike I put in the Rockford Fosgate PBR for 00 amp, in the Focal 165’s In the faring. Great set up. The new stereo with the “quiet “ M8 , Is a much better sound. I suggest you go to the audio section where the experts hang out. You can do so much better for the money vs the Boom set-up .

I've had many Harley's and as mentioned before, if it isn't Harley or Screamin Eagle your warranty is Void. Note your dealer may accept the upgrades if they do the install however no other dealer is going to honour your warranty.
I've gone with the Stage II Torque Kit with SE Street Cannons & SE Ventilator Air Intake. All installed by the dealer and qualifies for the Two Year warranty.

Thanks for the comments Gents. Lets put warranty aside, my question to all is, does the combination of upgrading your speakers along with a full v&h exhaust system work? Another words can you hear the the upgraded stereo system with louder pipes compared to the SE full system?

Thanks

I have a 2012 RGU. First thing I did was up the engine to a 110, and replace the exhaust with a full V&H system. Power Duals with Hi-Output slip ons. Next thing was to upgrade the stereo using the HK head unit and adding the J&M XT Rokkers in both front and rear and a J&M 500w amp in the fairing. Great combination. I can rock down the highway doing 80mph at 3k rpm and still hear the stereo just fine.

Thanks Stick_FSMC, So another words your opinion V&H over a full SE exhaust? And when it comes to upgrading stereo systems the boom audio stage 2 setup with fairing speakers and 300w amp waist of money? Lastly upgrading the speaker system is that a do-it-yourself kinda thing or is it more of a professional level of knowledge needed to install properly?

Thanks for your help!

I have never ridden a bike with the SE exhaust, so I can't say if it is better or worse. I do like the V&H set up I have. I have put 74k miles on it.

My 500w amp is powering 4 channels, so only 125w per channel. If you are just driving 2 channels with a 300w amp, that's 150w per channel, so more power than I am using. You should be fine there. I wouldn't call it a waste of money. I spend a lot of time on my bike and I enjoy listening to the tunes. My set up works for me.

I did the full stereo install myself. It's not Rocket Science, but you do have to have patience, and be able to read/follow the instructions.

Not entirely true... Some dealers may honor your warranty but its a roll of the dice. For me, I refused to let the Moco dictate what I could do with my bike. Upon Purchase I did the Stage III 114 Kit, V&H Power Duals and V&H High Out put. I have since bought the TTS200 Cam and Power Vision Tuner - My bike is only a few months old. If something goes wrong and I have to foot the bill - Oh, well. I will say this - the bike rides and sounds grrrrrrrrrrt! LOL! I also have the Boom Stage 2 - In my opinion... If it did not come on the bike during purchase I would not have purchased it because you can do better for less.
