Best choice of headers and slip on muffles

Got a new 218 CVO on Friday would like a little more Harley sound and equal or better proformance

all a matter of personal preference, what type of sound, how loud, throaty, sharp whatever do you like?....ask 10 folks on here and you'll get 10 different answers probably. Personally, I've always liked Vance and Hines Big Rounds, smooth deep sound, not too loud. I have since heard some others I really like, the MK45's by S&S, Magnaflow and heard a mellow reinhart yesterday that really surprised me...as normally not a fan....

I ended up with two brothers slip-ons, really ended up liking them. Not overly loud, deeper, bit of a throat on them...the mrs said they trill or roll their R's more than stock....they sounded and look different from anything else I've seen.....and got a screaming deal which helped with the decision.

Hey PB.

Depending on your long range plans, peak torque and HP can most likely come from a properly tuned 2-1 head pipe and muffler. However, you can find multiple 2-1-2 head pipes that can come close to the same performance while maintaining the fairly stock appearance of a dual exhaust set up.

Fuelmoto Jackpot 2-1-2, V&H Power Duals, Rinehart Slim Line Duals or even Rush High Output Touring head pipes are all good choices. On my new 2018 RGS I went with the Rinehart Slim Line Duals and Rinehart 4" Classic mufflers. I'm not normally a Rinehart fanboy and in fact, in the past have run as far away from them as possible because every single person I ride with or see seems to be running Rineharts or V&H. I loved the Rush HO touring head pipes on my 2015 and chose those specifically to be different and they were a value buy at the price I paid. The thing that all of the above have in common in that they are 2-1-2 designs (meaning they have a crossover or a collector) that helps preserve some of the low end torque that's often lost when going with a true dual setup.

Personally, I'm not a fan of true duals on a touring bike, but there will be plenty of folks that disagree with me on that one.

Just remember, that if you move beyond just changing out the mufflers (i.e. new head pipe and high flow AC) you'll need some sort of tuning solution for best results.

Oh, and by the way............

I'm totally happy with my choice of Rinehart this time around. The combination sounds good (personal preference of course), my passenger loves that the CAT is gone from under her right foot and ankle, and performance is OK. Seat of the pants torque dropped just a tad, but she has a bit more breathing room in the upper RPM range. Not that it's worse, just that the torque band seems to have moved a little to the right is all.

The other reason I decided on Rinehart was a recent experience a friend of mine had. His girlfriend laid a nylon jacket down on the heat shield of the Rinehart pipes on his 2015 Road Glide, and we all know how that turned out. He contacted Rinehart about a replacement shield....... and lets just say that they took really good care of him. Can't beat the customer service he received on what was certainly his GFs screw up.

If you're primarily after performance I'd say get a good 2 into 1 like the D&D Billet Cat, if you're more into looks and sound then duals are the ticket. As previously mentioned a good 2 into 1 into 2 with a crossover will be a good compromise. They won't have the torque dip that most true duals give but you'll still have the true dual look. S&S actually makes a headpipe for the new M8's that has equal diameter pipes on both sides and you can run any 16 or earlier style muffler with them which gives you a lot broader choice along with more equal exhausting out both sides.
