True Dual With Rear Pipe Exit Left Side

Hi. I've got a '17 FLTRU I'd like to outfit with a true dual exhaust where the rear cylinder pipe exits immediately to the left side of the bike. This is so much nicer looking than the current style (Bassani etc) which exits on the right, joins with the front cylinder, and then goes under the right side of the bike. Samson makes the nicer true dual design but only for older softtails it looks like. I understand there are disadvantages, extra heat when a pipe has to bend immediately, and the cylinders don't share back pressure (slight power advantage). But if nobody is going to make this for the M8 I might have to have it fabricated when it goes off warranty, which ain't going to be cheap. It seems like someone will make this eventually but the M8 has been out now for two years ....

I think 08 was the last year of the duals you are looking for. That's how mine are, exits the left side. If you are looking at fabbing some, it might be advantageous to start with a used set from an older bike and weld in your stock flanges. I have seen some sets floating around fairly cheap.

Your don’t need to weld on your flanges. They all use snap rings to retain the flange on the headpipe. As long as you have the short, larger step right at the end that stops the snap rings from sliding right off, your good. If I remember contractor, M8, twin cam and evo use the same size flange anyways, so it might be a moot point.

In any case, you might be further ahead to find a used exhaust system on Craigslist or eBay and start cutting where you need. Then at least you are starting with some bends and can get closer than starting with straight tubing. I’ve made a number of exhaust pipes for bikes over the years like that.
