2012 Road Glide Ultra--can it use later-year radiators?

Howdy, all

It's looking like a nice 2012 RGU is going to be my new ride (getting excited to finish the process). Made a list of things plus and minus since I figure almost as soon as I own it I'm going to start 'correcting' it. This one, though, is specific.

Later RGs seem to have a large triangular radiator at the front of the frame (right behind the front wheel). The 2012 doesn't. The question: if I got one of the big ol' radiators from HD (or, honestly, if there's a third-party one that's recommended), would I be able to run it on that 2012? Or am I limited to smaller third-party ones you hang off the front sides of the frame?

Just because I like this RG doesn't mean it's not going to be fun 'fixing' things on my V-Twin Lego set.

Thanks!

Davey

I apologize; you're right, I'm wrong. (I think.)

The oil coolers were what I was referring to. As one who doesn't live the life of Engines, I always classed Radiators as part of the cooling system. Since Harleys are (mostly) not liquid-cooled, I looked at the side-of-frame things as radiators, being that they lose heat (for the oil).

Question still stands, though. Is it possible to take one of the large OIL COOLERS from a recent model and run them on a 2012 RG?

And again, thanks. I'll learn all this stuff eventually. :S

And its not triangular.

Plus (and I could be wrong), don't the 12 FLTRUs have an oil cooler?

(edit) yes, they do have an oil cooler.

So I'm back to my original response: Um....what?

I wonder if you were looking at a chin spoiler, which would be an aftermarket part.

Or maybe an Arlen Ness frame grill: https://www.jpcycles.com/product/138...SABEgKsafD_BwE

Are you referring to this circled in red?

Its either an oil cooler or a gremlin bell, cant tell which you're pointing to, and neither is triangular. Well, maybe the bell, if you squint

2012 has an oil cooler on it. Not much of one, but its there.

If you wanted to upgrade, then all it takes is bout $450-500 to put an aftermarket cooler with some fans in its place. But the motor isn't plumbed to make use of the oil to cool the exhaust valve seats. My advise would be to put a set of jug fans on it and not worry about the oil cooler.

Well, no. I'm referring to the thing (that still looks triangular to me) that on later models is hung off the frame right above the circled area. I wish I had an online presence so I could post pictures of my own.

*click*click*click*

Well, what do you know? It's at least showing a thumbnail for me. Snagged from an image of a 2018 RG.

Is that not an oil cooler?

Yah, I've seen some looks-decently-strong aftermarket oil coolers. If that big thing's not one, I'll likely go with the default of something fan-equipped (or just fans). Just thought I'd ask.

Thanks!

Davey
