Removing the Cat Question

2018 Road Glide Special with Harley tuner. Does removing the cat really help with the heat to make it worth removing the cat or replacing the header without the cat? Also, from what I have read, a tune is not needed if the cat it removed? Since I already have the HD tune, I would not think a followup would not be needed?

Thanks for any input

Yes removing the CAT will reduce the heat and no you will not have to retune.

This is good news. I had the same question.

Would you say it is a significant reduction in heat on your leg?

Ok, I'm confused (not hard to do)...go catless and no need to re-tune? M8 magic?

There are possible warranty implications too, right?

Re-tuning would be optimal anytime you make a change to the exhaust but making very small changes like just changing the A/C or just changing the slip-ons are not enough to make a big difference in the tune. So just removing the CATS would not make a big enough difference to the flow out. I used to think that the CATS created a lot of back pressure but have since found out that they really don't. At least not enough to make a difference in the tune but you are correct in that you could run into warranty issues depending on what the issue is and if it can be connected to the exhaust. Even then I have heard that the EPA has fined the MoCo for every bike that they have been caught doing warranty work on that has had modifications done that take it outside of the EPA standards. Some dealers may still try and give you a hard time about it.
