Valvoline

Looking to change oil and would like to use the Valvoline 20/50 synthetic. Be en using the HD synthetic but cost is getting high and with 2 bikes in the garage it's getting a little pricey. Was looking at the Valvoline and it states that it's wet clutch compatible but says nothing about using it in the primary. Always used Valvoline in other vehicles with no issues and would like to convert the bikes over to. Any users of this oil in all 3 locations. I would rather not have to buy 2 different types of oil, one for engine, trans then a different one for the primary. Sorry for another oil question thanks.

I run the Valvoline synthetic for my motor oil. If you watch Advanced Auto they run it on sale very frequently. I choose to use different lubricants. I use Red Line in my Tranny and I still use HD for my primary.......Don't know why, Just do.....I would consider running the Valvoline in my Primary, but I'll stay with Red Line for my tranny.........I've bee really happy with it since I changed over.....

That sound you hear is the can of worms opening. Get ready for the myriad of suggestions as to brand and type.

I can only speak for the engine, but I've used Valvoline a couple of times, seemed to be ok, but I'm also one who tends not to use the same lubricant in all three holes.

I ran VR1 20-50 FS racing oil for two oil changes and really really liked it , until all my local sources quit carrying it , then I went to Redline in all three holes ..

Peeps can say what they want but there is no way one oil will be correct for all three holes , though it is done ..

if you have a stock motor the Harley Formula + is fine in the primary ..

I haven't run the Valvoline in the engine or primary yet but I have run the Valvoline 75w140 synthetic gear lube in the tranny with the same results as Mobil 1 75 w 140 gear lube. IMO you need to run gear lube in the trans not motor oil.

I had asked one of the dealer techs about using a good quality gear oil in the trans and primary he just laughed and said he didn't recommend it, so I continued to use the HD synthetic. Was an Amsoil user but noticed more top end noise so went back to the HD. That was on another HD. May still go with the Valvoline in the engine and a good brand of synthetic in the trans and primary. I didn't want to open a can of worms by asking another oil question LOL. After doing some research and from what I gather is HD is made by Citgo or Sunoco, or someone else, whoever gets the lower bid. I could be wrong, I just want to use a consistant brand of oil not whatever a contract goes out to the lowest bidder. Thanks for the replies, looks as though I may have to use different brands of oil for all 3 locations.
