Mobil 1 20w-50 VTWIN in all 3 holes?
My street bob has over 45,000 miles on it with Mobil 1 20w-50 VTWIN in all 3 holes.
I agree that a proper gear oil (75w+) MIGHT be better? In the tranny.
However I ride the street bob HARD and it hasn't had unusual wear YET!
My FLTRU is getting Redline Shockproof in the tranny on the next change. I like that it's pink (easy to spot leak) AND the reputation is EXCELLENT.
Something to think of:
Heavy gear lube in trannys is OLD school technology.
These trannies were designed from the cad cam design for fine tolerances and 20w-50, straight 50 and straight 60 weight oil.
Modern pickup trannys are running ATF or lighter fluids going on 20 years. Transfer cases run atf going on 20 years now as well.
Heavy weight oils are even being replaced in semi truck transmissons and rear ends and in gearboxes for wind turbines and generators that weigh upwards of 25 tons!
