With the wet clutch , the clutch has it's own separate oil bath , completely sealed from the motor or transmission oils . So if you pull the derby cover and see oil in there , it's wet .. If it's a shovelhead or older Harley or has an open primary , it's dry ..
Wet clutches wear better than dry clutches , also are much easier on your clutch hand in stop and go traffic , unless you have a slave cylinder added to it ..
Dry clutches grab better off the line , don't last as long as wet clutches , and as they wear , get noisier .. They are more common on the race track ..
