fluids

Hey Guys

I was speaking to someone today and they said to me that they use the same oil for the motor, primary and transmission, is that possible?

Thanks

sure, it's possible. some use syn3, others mobil1 v twin, and others use amsoil.

but then, most people want to use engine oil for the engine, primary fluid for the clutch, and gear oil for the tranny.

look out in the parking lot next time you go to bike night. see all the bikes? that's about how many opinions there are on which oils to use. find a 'recipe' that works for you and stick with it. just make sure to change it regularly and you should have no oil related failures.

I understand the concept of reality, but find it too confining for a way of life.

No reason you can't many do. For the transmission gear lube and engine oil viscosity is measured different so 20/50 and lube come out about the same. Primary is not overly fuzzy. Seems the only ones having compensator issue are running other stuff any way.
HD f+ works fine in primary has for years. Never hear much from those that do about all there Issues.
Good gear lubes work well in the transmission, are they better no one know. Going to heavy in the gear box will cause issues. I don't care who agrees or not.
You have to go with what helps you sleep at night in the end. Every one selling a product invents their own facts most are meaning less.
Listen much to the web you have to take your HD apart replace everything and start over, then make sure you run their magic lubes and change oil every 1000 miles. Lot of us out hear disagree.

Yes in my old Harley I ran Mobil 1 in all 3 holes. Now with the RG I use Mobil 1 for engine oil and Redline Primary and Redline Transmission.

The great oil debate . You're going to be getting a bunch of opinions on what you should use but YES you can use the same oil in all 3 holes

you can , but I am of the opinion that you use gear oil in the transmission , because it has gears , different requirements than the engine .. 50w engine oil is about the same viscosity as 90w gear oil , their ratings are measured differently ..

This is what I use as well but Syn3 or Mobil1 is ok in all 3, even says it on bottle

More fluids talk for your reading pleasure

I did my first transmission and primary fluids change last night and after some back and forth I decided to go with Lucas HD synthetic trans fluid and Mobil1 Racing 4T motorcycle oil, also synthetic, 10w40 in the primary. I was going to go with Rotella in the primary but decided for the Mobil1. I may try something else in the primary later but am not going to obsess over it.

I am going to go with Amsoil in the engine and am waiting for the local dealer to order on Monday with a two day turn around. I already did an initial engine oil change at 400 miles with dino oil now at 1200 miles, time for full synthetic in there as well.
