Oil Service interval vs Primary and Trans Problems
Hello Folks,
I have an interesting question to pose here.
I have heard of several folks having primary, stator and trans issues and I am wondering if it has to do more with service intervals than with the actual components themselves.
I am initiating a poll to see how many people change all 3 holes at the same time on a regular basis vs following the moco's intervals for all 3 holes separately and if those service intervals have any affect on the components.
Definitely not scientific by any means just wondering out loud.
I can honestly say that my motor, trans and primary issues have been literally nonexistent, I do change all 3 holes each and every time I do a service.
Chime in, discuss, the beauty is there are no right or wrong answers, just a place to learn as usual.
What is your oil change frequency? 3000mi, 4000mi, 5000mi?

I always go by the MoCo Book - They built it so I'll follow their recommends

On the newer scooter, it's more or less by the book. Some times it might get done a little early, and some times a little late.
Trans and primary on the 10's
Oil at less than 5000. Usually less as the winter oil never gets close to 5000 and most summers its more than 5 and less than 10k miles.
Mobile1 or Pure oil in the motor, Shockproof in the trans, and Formula+ in the primary.

I change all 3 @ 5k. I have gone a bit over on 2 occasions. The trip to SVIV and SWVII put me over 5k.

Oil every 5k
Trans and primary every 10k
While under warranty I try to use HD Syn3... but sometimes I'm to lazy to do my service and I take to my local small shop.
Also, even though it's expensive I try to have the dealer service it once a year doing a full check on her. Usually try to average 3 services a year minimum.

Although it's good practice to check your fluid often, if my trans or primary is not clear at all, it gets changed.

Adds down to 7,500 mi/yr
Change oil/filter @3-4k primary most every x (friction material)
Trans maybe 5x, only when tinched slightly
If I let the oil go >4k seems it down a 1/2 qt
No issues before or after tensioners @ 85k

I also like to always make it a hot change, have all the fluids warmed up really well when draining them and I like to leave them to drip for a while before replacing the plugs, new o-rings on each plug each service as well.
My motto is that service parts such as o-rings and oil are cheap, regular, preventative mtce to preserve. Currently using Redline products for all 3 holes and an additional 3 ounces of "Powerup" lubricant in the motor oil.
