Ok Im going to ask it.. what do I use?

I've spent a long time reading through forums and theres just a plethora of different fluids everyone is running. I bought my '12 RG last week and I wanted to take a stab at doing my first Harley Servicing..

my question: Can anyone just point me in the right direction and tell me Exactly what to grab thats available at walmart/autozone? I was thinking
ENGINE: Mobil1 syn 20w50
TRANS:Mobil1 75w90 gear
PRIMARY: ? up in the air on that one.

I certainly appreciate the feedback. I know the "my fluid of choice is beer" comments will flow but just wanted to cut to the chase.

Engine oil choice is ok, but I'd bypass the auto parts store for your trans and primary. Get Redline oils for the trans and primary. It makes a noticeable difference and is designed for your bike, not a tractor or a car.

I use Mobil 1 in the motor and the Harley transmission and drive train oil in the other two holes. Tried other stuff, this combo works for me.

Dude! You haven't kept a bike long enough to be let down by oil choice! LOL!

Many an HD in my garage before this site amigo - Put 5K on the M8 already, put 6K on the beast and put 7K on the Gray '16 - To some that is nothing but that is 18K in the span of 1.5 seasons - Ran Syn 3 in my old FXDX for YEARS and beat the piss outta her......never an issue

That and I ride my bikes hard - Run and bang the gears and take the Rs up - Like I said, never an issue

Follow the viscosity, and ratings as called out in the owners manual and don't worry about brand.

I stocked up on Harley fluids while I had my discount, but will use whatever equivalent rated fluids that are available.

I've used Mobil 1, Castrol, Valvolene, and Amsoil in the past.

I haven't kept a bike over 60,000 miles yet, so haven't reached the miles where oil choice would make a difference.

Now, if your goal is to not change fluids as often as the manufacturer recommends, then go for the best fluid you can afford.
