Time for the 1000 mile service on my 2018 RG. In the Ultra's i had previously i used Amsoil V Twin oil in the primary and engine and Amsoil transmission fluid. Has anyone tried the Amsoil V Twin primary fluid? I just noticed they offered this and was wondering if it is worth trying.

Yes, I’ve used it since it was introduced, works very well! Same goes for the V-Twin Transmission Fluid.

The Amsoil Primary fluid works great. If you are an Amsoil member and like to buy your fluids from them it's the way to go. We can go on and on about all the different brands that are great choices but to answer your specific question and not get off on yet another oil thread debate, yes it is certainly worth trying.

Not going to go wrong using any top tier name brand oils.

I personally like Mobil 1 due to the fact it's available anywhere you're at(Autozone, etc.). Amsoil is a little more tougher to find, especially on the road if you need a quart to top off.

This is what has worked for me:

Mobil 1 V-Twin 20w-50 for the engine & primary
Mobil 1 75w-90 for the transmission(noticeably quieter and smoother shifting)

Thinking this may reduce the possibility of transmission oil migrating to the primary on M8's, due to being thicker.

it isn't really any thicker. gear oil and engine oil viscosities are measured differently. 75-90 gear oil is almost the same viscosity as 20-50 engine oil.

Not that I have a dog in this hunt as it applies to what brand oil anyone uses in any of the three holes, but.............................

Keep in mind that there are a certain number of M8 bikes that have the nagging problem of transferring oil from the transmission into the primary. If you're using a different fluid in the tranny, and you're unfortunate enough to have fluid migration issues, you might just consider using the same oil in both of those holes.

Food for thought.

I used the multi quart jugs from Walmart. i never noticed that the mobile 1 15/50 was jaso rated. I just always used rotella t because it was, and because I didn't see a need to spend the money on a full synthetic for the primary.

I'm running Harley Syn 3 in all three holes. In the off chance the transmission migration happens it will be the same fluid so no issues except levels. I do check the oil level every ride and transmission level monthly (or 1000 miles, which ever comes first). So far 14,500 miles on my 2018 RG and no issues...knock on wood!

Just done my 10,000 mile oil change on my 2019 RGS. I had the vent kit fitted 5000 miles ago and happy no transfer now so used proper oils in each hole. Redline 20/50 in engine, Redline Primary in Primary and Redline transmission with shockproof in Transmission.
Amazon are doing a great at the moment on the Redline Big Twin Oil package, 5 qt of engine oil, 1qt or Primary and 1 qt of transmission + fuel treatment + funnel + hat + stickers for $99.99
Only thing you need to add is filter and 'O' rings

I changed all 3 holes 1000 miles ago. I switched over to the Amsoil products. Using the Amsoil V-Twin Primary oil in primary, Severe Gear oil in Tranny and their V-Twin Crankcase oil. I noticed an immediate difference in shifting up/down while moving or stopped and putting in neutral. It just feels smoother and silky now compared to the Syn 3 I had been using.
ps. I’ve also been changing the primary every crankcase oil change. That oil gets dirty enough after 5k-6k miles and not that hard or expensive to just do at same time. just my .02 worth.
I had 3 Gold Wings prior my first RGU, I always used with great success the Shell Rottella Full Synthetic oil (Blue multi Qt. jug $21.00@ Walmart ) anyone using it on their M8 and in what holes?
TIA

I'm an old Vulcan rider who used Rotella for years. You will be hard pressed to find many here that do for whatever reason. Here its Amsoil, Mobil 1 and Harleys SYN3 and not in the tranny mostly

Mobil 1 20/50 in crank and primary, mobil 1 75-140 in trans. Change trans every 10K, crank and primary every 5K. Havent noticed any problems and have had the vent kit installed.
