How my wife became a "Dragon Slayer"

Funny story I thought I would share. Back in 2012 during Shark Week II, we met a couple from Indiana (Ron (aka Smitty), and his wife Karen). We hit it off and realized we lived within in an hour of each other. We lived in central Illinois and they lived in Indiana. Over they next year we would occasionally meet up etc. In 2013 Ron and Karen retired and moved to Maryville Tn. Shortly after there move, my wife and I visited them and did some riding throughout Southeastern Tennessee. The one theme that was consistent is that my wife didn't want to run the Dragon.....Fastforward to two weeks ago: We took another trip down to visit Ron and Karen. That first night while my wife was taking a shower, Ron whispered that tomorrow they wanted to run over to Tapoco Tavern for lunch in North Carolina, they quickest route was through the Dragon. At this time Ron, Karen and I made a blood pact that we would not mention it to my wife! What she doesn't know wont hurt her. The next day we headed out, oblivious to the signs and postings, we ran through the Dragon with my wife not having a clue. Once we popped into North Carolina, we stopped at the Deals Gap giftstore, dismounted, I gave my wife a big hug and told her Congratulations!!, you just slayed the Dragon!! She was excited and couldn't believe it! Long story short, after she spent $200 in the gift store and we had a good laugh tied to our successful deceit, we headed out to Lunch. That is the story of how my wife earned her "Dragon!!

The first time I rode it many years ago I didn't know I was on it until we got to Deals Gap. Just thought it was another narrow mountain road like all the others I had been riding. Rode it early on a weekday so there was no fan fare or photographers or police around.
