ECM replacement and Power Vision

I started a thread a few weeks ago in the troubleshooting section ref some odd electrical issues with my 12 RGC and some of the DTC's it was throwing. After trying to track them down I'm leaning more & more towards the ECM itself. Sadly I'm going to have to bring it up to Great South HD today and have them knock out the 20k service, change the front tire, and track down & fix my electrical gremlins. (Hate this because I normally service my own stuff) although I've always had good experiences with G.S. HD.

If the root cause of the problems turns out to be the ECM & it needs replacing:

1. Will my PV work with the new ECM since it's married to the old? I'm assuming yes as the new ECM would need to be programmed by the dealer and I'm guessing that would make it a mirror image of the old. I hope so - $500 for a PV...

2. Will I need to leave my PV with the service department?

3. If #2 is no, would service most likely flash a new ECM back to the original map, meaning I would need to bring my PV with when picking up the bike in order to reflash my tune?

4. Do y'all reckon the dealer will balk at doing ESP covered work being that I'm running a non-OEM Stage 1 & after market tuner?

Thanks.

You can get a transfer from dynojet for the PV. Go to their website it will tell you how. I did this when I moved my PV from my streetglide to my roadglide. If you contact them they may send it to you at no cost since it is the same bike. Your map should still be on it so then just flash it on the new ecm.

Thanks Dave, good to know. Do you think I should put my stock air cleaner back on and flash the original tune prior to bringing it to the dealer for Extended Service Plan work or do you reckon it would be OK to leave it as is? Hate to do that but I'd also hate to have to pay for something that would normally be covered under the plan...

play it safe. put your original ac and map back in it. it's not like you're changing out a set of cams. you can reflash it back after you get your bike back. dynojet should be able to help you in transferring the license to the new ecm.

I understand the concept of reality, but find it too confining for a way of life.

Skratch, thanks & that's what I did. Dropped it off earlier today. Pretty sure Great South would have hooked me up, they always have - but with the 20k, tire change, etc. I really didn't want to get chumped & have to pay for the diag & repairs as well. Your post helps me think I didn't waste my time.
