Vance and Hines digital tuner and Dyno Techs

In your experiences, do you think most Dyno Techs know how to retune a Vance and Hines Digital tuner ??? The closest shop with a Dyno is a Harley Shop and don't know if they would know anything about the Vance and Hines since most of their work is with the SE Tuneer..

You cannot tune one. You enter a code ( from the list) for the parts you have and that is it.
If you buy the complete set up its going to be some what in the ball park. You cannot take one set of numbers and increase it and think it will give more fuel that's not how it works.

Tons of post on guys trying a dozen sets of codes. Not to mention it makes timing changed based on TPS which is not how the ECM does timing. It does not care what TPS setting you have . Timing is based off of KPA ...

Buy all the VH parts and load that map should get you within 10% of what a skilled tuner can do with a correct tuner. For many that is all they need. Nothing wrong with that..

124shark - I think you are thinking about the older Fuelpak Tuner. The new FP3 Flash Tuner using your Smart Phone is very similar to PowerVision and SEST.

Mouser58 - are you currently running the FP3?? Or are you worried that there is not a map for your combo? But to answer your question most tuners will not want to tune with the FP3 because it is new and not what they are accustomed to. The FP3 has autotune and top shelp customer service to help you out. The ap is free to download from iTunes and the Google play store. Check it out it has a nice demo mode you can play with.

No on the FP3..Digital... Thanks for the info.. So if I get it Dyno'd and it shows I need more of something to improve the settings, I will need to get in touch with Vance and Hines to see if they have any other code numbers.

You will need a different tuner in order to get the bike dyno tuned. The bike cannot be tuned without a tuner that allows changes to be made to the bike.

The earlier FuelPak's are plug and play items designed for simple mods such as a stage 1 meaning air cleaner and pipes.

The FP3 is a different animal but only fits 14 and newer touring models.

Thanks Drew , based on his sig that is what i thought as well.

However the

to compare the FP3 is no where near a hd Pro tuner or a TTS . Blue tooth is very slow for data collection. The tuner is much like the car world with cat back and CIA set ups.

This is off the V&H site and sums it up.

" they state that the FP3 is only good for "light" modifications, like exhaust and intake.
Cam changes, headwork and larger displacement engines are not covered."

So if you want a limited use item and like the trendy blue tooth deal go for it. But when it comes time to add a cam and really tune, do not get shocked when it now is the issue to get a correct tune on the bike.

The tuner debate will never end is my guess

124shark,
Just a short update on the FP3. The latest V&H updates for FP3 now includes the ability to add cams that may have been installed in a bike. The V&H website claims they have included 40+ most popular cams for the 2014-16s. Select your cam, if it is on their list, along with your other stage 1 upgrades and the appropriate map is displayed for flashing into the ECM. You are correct that Head work & Engine size increases can't be handled by the FP3.

I wonder if the new cals are in fact taking into account injector timing based on cam closing?? or just cal based on tunes with a stock cam..

We sell the FP3 and are familiar with its features, however V&H has not actually put cams in motors and tested them. They are basically setting up the estimated IVO/IVC in their calibrations. They have not actually tested bikes/maps with the cams listed.

So for just air cleaner and pipes the FP3 would work fine and for other upgrades the power vision?Im on the fence for a tuner for stage one and don't plan on anything more.
