PC V Failure

Started to ride home from ST Augustine to CT the other morn around 5:30am and bike started backfiring, sputtering and losing power with tach all over the place. It shut itself down. Had it towed to local HD shop and they said. Y Power Commander had crapped out. I had the install the Race Tuner and dyno'd at 86hp 108Tq Pretty respectable. Also picked up about 3mpg over what I was getting. That's over 4 tanks of gas not just 1. BTW I bought the PC V used here just under 2 yrs ago so wasn't really upset that I had it break. That's what this Shanty Irishman gets. Lol

It can happen..Powervision is the way to go. Flashes the ECM versus piggyback and much better then SE, V&H, TTS, ect.

Same here

Hey Big Jim I had a PC 5 on my 2009 for about 2 years that I bought new.
Riding to Myrtle beach last year it just shut down and dealer told me it crapped out also. maybe 2 years old. Called Fuel Moto where I bought it and they told me to call PC 5 company and I did and they told me after many many calls what to try but offered no help after deciding it was done. I'm looking for a new tuner and not sure what to get!

That's surprising. FuelMoto is known for Customer Service / Support...

I Agree

I totally agree that Jamie at Fuel Moto is great but he told me to talk to guys at PC 5 company and they were of no help other than telling me what to try and then well it's gone. Want to buy another one? Each call was a waiting game like everytime I called it was " there are 11 callers in front of you!" Waited to talk to them usually 30 or more minutes at a time. Anyways I am gunshy of PC 5 so looking at other tuners. Sorry If you took what I was saying about Jamie. He is great.
Good luck with yours.

I thought that FuelMoto doubled the PowerCommander Warranty to 2 years when purchased from FM? You did state that you purchased from FM???

I'm not bashing here; I like Jamie, my friends and I have purchased and been happy with their products / services / support over the years, but I am puzzled why he told you to call DJ and did not handle your problem internally?

Have you spoken with Jamie since DJ blew you off? Is he aware of your ordeal with DJ?

I'm running the PC-V / Auto in the 117 and am very happy with it so far (1 year in service tomorrow, purchased from FM) but if it craps out in the next year or so, and I have to go through the ordeal that you have gone through, I too, would be gun shy regarding another DJ product. There are plenty of options out there.

FWIW; I (like probably all the rest) take these forums with a grain of salt. But they can be a valuable resource to us consumers in sharing feedback about different products / services.

All the products for our Harleys and Harley itself are man made and subject to failure. It's part of the deal...

Customer Service (or lack of) after the sale greatly influences my future purchasing decisions. I've had products fail and due to the Customer Service I received, I would not hesitate to buy again or recommend to my friends. On the other hand...

Let us know how it shakes out for you?

No bashing here

Heatwave
Not bashing Jamie at all. Yes I told him I purchased from him but it was either right at or beyond the 2 years of purchase. He told me to call tech support and I did several times but still have not resolved issues. It's dead. Hooked to computer but computer will NOT recognize PC V and the power light comes on but not recognized. Tried several new cables as tech support told me to but not any better. I guess I am just stuck with a bad or dead PC V. Just surprised that it does not last any longet than it did. I hear great things about them from this forum which is why I bought it. I guess it's just my bad luck. I have sent more messages to Dynojet company and am waiting on reply. Will let you know if I get any help that works.

Unfortunately, if it died out of the warranty you're stuck. DJ offers 1 year and fuelmoto doubles that but if it was just past 2 you're SOL. I think the failure is not the norm as you don't hear about that online. I was very happy with my PCV and fuelmoto for 4years and 70k miles on my street glide so I went with a power vision from them for my road glide. It is a different animal though.

Kind of what I figured

I know. Just my luck to crap out ot a very short time out of warranty. Just makes me gun shy to buy another one. Wondering what to try now and hopefully have better luck. Cannot afford 3 to 4 hundred dollars every 2 years!

That's very disappointing, even if it's out of warranty for a reasonable time...

PC-V failures are relatively rare given the #s that are out there, I wouldn't care how rare the failures are, the one that you spent $$$ on failed

And if DJ or FM is the type to "count the minutes" of warranty expiration, and their only idea of customer service is to offer to sell you a new one (without a significant discount) it would leave a bad taste in my mouth as to Customer Satisfaction
