Retune of stock ECM??

Has anyone heard of reprogramming or mapping a stock ECM? a friend of mine just had his 2014 street glide remapped for $200 and dyno'd for $300. He added Rinehart true dials and a ness big sucker intake. I didn't think a stock ECM was reprogrammable??? The guy that did this has some software and is licensed to use it? He is very happy with the results and the guy was also able to make the throttle more responsive..... Anyone have any feedback positive or negative????

As I understand it, the HD tuners reprogram the stock ECU as they don't remain attached after tuning like a power commander does.

There are several tuners that you can reflash the stock ECM:

TTS
Power Vision

Are 2 that come to mind.

I'm going to see if I can find out more from him. I asked if he bought a turner and he said no, he just paid for him to remap the ECM. He did say it was "something vision". Does power vision make a software for mechanics to just retune a stock ECM w/o adding a tuner?

Power Vision has licenses available so I think a Tuner can purchase mutilple licenses to remap multiple ECM's.

It's probably to your advantage to just purchase the Power Vision unit yourself and have your tuner remap the ECM while on the Dyno. You would then have the Power Vision device to reuse if you make changes to your engine.

One of the other ones like the one I have is Direct Link. The dyno guy sells you a jump drive type device that is authorized to flash or is married to your bike. Then if you ever have problems, you keep it with you and anyone that does dyno work with the direct link program can adjust or refresh you ecm.

HE MIGHT HAVE USED A HARLEY PRO TUNER SOMETIMES CALLED A SERT THAT STANDS FOR SCREAMING EAGLE RACE TUNER

http://www.harley-davidson.com/store...ance-tuner-kit

The Screamin' Eagle® Street Performance Tuner is designed to simplify management of street-legal performance calibrations as EPA-compliant performance modifications are made. It easily allows the rider or technician to view and evaluate engine operating parameters.

Upload the calibration that provides the best performance mix for your mufflers
Add a Big Bore Stage I or Stage II kit later, and simply download the proper ECM calibration to match the model and hardware
Kit includes Vehicle Communications Interface module with on-board memory to record up to 15 minutes of run-time data
Module will store information on up to 27 variables that can be downloaded to your PC via an optional USB cable (sold separately)
Ability to view the bike's air/fuel ratio, O2 sensor readings, engine speed and temperature, RPM and vehicle speed, throttle position, spark advance and much more
Online access to the latest factory calibrations, so you can load the most up-to-date parameters whenever you have your bike serviced
Software download and updates can be found at –

The stock ECM can be reflash for performance mods without having a tuner, the reflash of the ECM map will allow the ECM to adjust AFR and timing to compensate for performance mods.
The reflash will get the bike to where it will run half way decent. To get the bike to run the best it can then a tuner is needed such as the HD SERT or a aftermarket tuner, using a tuner will allow the dyno tech to fine tune the AFR and timing and get the bike to run the best it can.
In other words The stock ECM can be remapped and a ECM tuner is needed to do a dyno tune. Your friend didn't get ripped off and if you do performance mods to your bike you should consider doing the same thing.

He is happy with the results. I wasn't wondering if he was ripped off. I spent allot of time reading this forum when I decided to do my mods which I'm also very happy with. I just found it odd that I don't remember reading anything about upgrading the stock ECM w/o purchasing a module (there are tons of posts on this site so I could of easily missed it). I currently run Rinehart true duals, the SE heavy intake with a PV5 and couldn't be happier with the results and still wouldn't consider the method he choose.. I also like the fact that I can change things up if I decide to. Thanks for the replies all! Safe riding!!
