Stage 1 confusion

I am planning on doing a Stage 1 to my 2015 RGS. I plan on keeping it simple. I already have Rush Big Louie's on the bike.
Plan on using the HD street tuner for $299.
My question is what is the simple route to take with the air intake? Want to stay with HD SE
Thanks

[I][/I've] always thought a stage I is basically opening up the pipes (slipons or gutted ) and the air with a more open K&N and override on the stock brain

You pretty much answered your own question if you want to stick with HD. My personal opinion is that there are much better tuners and intakes out there for comparable or less money. But if that's the route you've decided, basically all you need to do is pick the SE air cleaner that you like and bolt it on when you get the tuner.

If you're happy with the oem AC look , your good there. It delivers more then enough air now. The V&H fuel pack might be a better choice then the street tuner. The ST won't break compliance.

Get the SE air intake kit and I agree there are much better EFI tuners then the SE tuners that are offered by HD.

With a 2015.......your CAT is in the Headers......if you want to REALLY Stage 1 the Bike, lose the stock Headers and get something that is open - Fuel Moto, V&H, etc etc but the restriction on the 2015 is your header - You can even run the stock AC Cover and open it up with a AN Big Sucker Behind it if you REALLY want to get nutty........but the HD Street Tuner is just Canned Maps.......the V&H FP3 will give you a MUCH better and true tune......IMHO

I went with the HD SE chiseled air intake.
Easy on, easy off.
Looks great on these bikes.

I also went with a full V&H setup.
Power Dualls
Twin Slash 4" V&H slip-on's
FP-3 Auto tuner.

My post is on this V&H FP-3 Auto Tuner.

A great product by V&H.

If your not aware of the FP-3, read up on it.

It works fantastic.

When I added HD SE 255 cams at my dealership, before I left the dealer, I updated the map on my bike from my phone and the bike was ready to rip.

I then did a 200 mile ride the next day and Autotuned it using my phone.

Lots of good data was retrieved by my autotune program and then I flashed my bike with that data and my bike has never run better.

Your bike will thank you by doing a full stage one.

Definitely need to gut the catalytic converter or go with a new head pipe.

The bike will be more unleashed.

The bike will also run a little cooler.

Let us know how it all turns out.

Good Luck
Swomack

I agree with all the above. A big sucker or SE intake allows you to keep the factory air cover. Get rid of the cat, gut the pipe or buy an a/m header pipe. I would not buy the new SE tuner for a 2016 and under. I had the power vision on my 2012 and it worked great, very versatile. If I were doing it again I would use the v&h tuner. My buds that have it love the simplicity of the app.

Good luck!

Agree with all of the above.

I have the S.E. Ventelater Elite and a set of SuperTrapps but what really made a big difference was when I got rid of the stupid heat generating cat and put a decatted headpipe on. I went with this one Harley Header pipes and it works very well, but anything without a cat will work. (some better than others of course but a little research will help narrow down your decision).

The last thing to get done on mine will be the Vance and Hynes FP3 this winter. I have been going back and forth for months now, and for my particular situation it is the best fit for me. I have no intention on doing cams or upping the compression or any other motor work and for that reason I think the FP3 gives the best bang for the buck.

Decide if you are going to be happy with just the Stage1 or if you want to go full tilt boogie and decide on a tuner based on that decision, however for a bit more money you can do WAYYYYY better than a Screaming Eagle.

Hope this helps,

Mike

I like the stock AC cover on my 15.. Word is that it flows all the air that you need. Fuel Moto makes a nice intake that works behind the stock AC cover. That's what I used.
