SE Pro Super Tuner 32109-08A no connection with M8 ECM

I have a 2018 FLTRXS that does not have connection with the SEPST program using SE pro super Tuner 32109-08A. There can be connection with newer VCI 32109-08C. The 08A version is making connection with the older bikes, I tested 2008 and 2012 touring bikes, which have 4-pin connector.
Can there be a programmed block preventing 32109-08A connection to M8 engine? 6-PIN cable is good. Both modules are having the latest firmware (414). 32109-08A is never paired with an ECM

The problem is with the cable. Looking at the cable kit for that tuner on Boardtracker online, it says:

Fitment
For use with '01-'17 VRSC™, '01-'13 EFI XL and XR, '01-'11 EFI Dyna® and Softail®, '02-'13 EFI Touring and '09-'13 Trike models. Also for use with VRSXSE Destroyer® race bike.

It’s why it worked on the older touring bikes you tried, but not on yours.

I’m aware with the cable differencies and used right one. 2014 was the change from 4-PIN to 6-PIN ECM connector.

Sorry, I see now where you mentioned that. Out of curiosity, what color is that tuner, orange or black? Reason I ask is I saw it mentioned in another forum by a member named “Rancid” regarding differences between the 8A and 8B. He said “the orange is set up with smart tune in the vci, so dealers dont have to reflash each of the old black super tuners. the new orange one is for all delphi efi bikes not just 2010 up, the orange one is useable on pre 2010. the black one will also work on 2010 it just has to be reflashed when connected to super tuner”.
I don’t know much about the Harley tuners, so maybe someone who does will chime in.

8A is black and 8C is orange. No other visual differencies. My understanding is that auto tune capability is in the super Tuner pro software. The software of street Tuner is no interoperal with pro super Tuner module and via versa. Both Tuners should be good for Touring 2007- . Could it be that 8A is not operational with 6-PIN cable and ECM?

That’s the first thing that crossed my mind when you made me aware that it worked fine with 4 pin bikes but not with your 6 pin. It tells me the tuner was designed for 4 pin, so I still suspect it’s the cable. If you can find one more bike with a 6 pin connector, I think you can answer that question. Other than de-pinning the connector so that the correct wires from the 6 pin align with the corresponding wires of the 4 pin it’s not going to work, and you’ll probably fry something in the process, so don’t do that. It’s unmarried so you could sell it to someone who’s bike it will fit, and get another reputable tuner like a TTS, Thundermax, PowerVision, an 08C, or even an FP3 if you’re going to keep things simple.

I’m having similar outcome that 08A is good only with 4-PIN ECM connector and 08C is for both, 4- and 6-PIN connectors.

Could someone, having 08A module, test my hypothesis with 6-PIN ECM connector?

My cables are like above and they are right.

Tuner end = DB9 female, i.e. old serial cables for PCs
Bike end = Deutsch DT06 also female end.
Six pin interface, CAN Bus 2014 newer on Touring

DB9 = DT06
9 = 5
4 = 3
3 = 1
1 = 2

Using 4-PIN cable VCI modules 32109-08A and 32109-08C are establishing communication with the pro super Tuner software and an ECM but
using 6-PIN cable only 32109-08C is communicating.

Wish I could help, but I’m out of ideas. I thought maybe it had something to do with the CANBUS, but seems you addressed that too. I wonder what those 2 extra wires on the 6pin carry that allow the C to communicate, but not th A. Any HD service techs in your area that could help? I’ll ask my service manager next time I run into him if you haven’t found an answer by then. It might be a while though. I think you’re not getting many replies because it’s a tuner that not many in this forum use anymore.

Thanks BlazingSaddle, my plan is to tune my 2018 FLTRXS with SE Pro Street Tuner (41000008C) to keep warranty valid, at this time, due many challenges which M8 is having.

As a summary: 6-PIN connector is having four wires connected: 12V, ground, Can low and Can high.
That is how 08C is communicating with ECM. 4-PIN connector has only three wires, 12V, ground and ECM data and that is functioning with both 08A and 08C tuners.
