Tuner question

New guy here and just bought a RGC. I am coming off of a FatBoy and had the TTS on it. I had it dyno tuned but to be honest starting with the canned map and some data runs it was ALMOST as good as the dyno tune. My setup was a pretty basic (and common) Stage 1 so the original map was close and after a few data runs I was happy.

Now I have the RGC and see a lot of folks with the Power Vision. I am looking for some comparison between the 2. Are there as many canned maps out there as there are for the TTS?

Are there maps out there for unmolested 103 road glides? I want to go ahead and put the tuner on, and play with it while I gather my pennies for exhaust and intake. I know there were for TTS.

I see a lot of support for Power Vision based on the support from Jamie at Fuel Moto (he supplied the TTS and support for me when I installed on the FatBoy in 2009) and understand that. I am looking for some comparisions from those who have used both.

Very happy with my PV as a DIY'er, but can't compare it to a TTS, as I've never used one. Here's a link to Dynojets library of tunes.

I just installed the ThunderMax Auto tuner and no complaints so far.

Pv1 here. Happy with the 30 second map changes. Childs play once a map is determined.

I haven't owned TTS, but I've owned earlier SE Race Tuner which was TTS rebranded. I can't comment on the newer VTune functions of TTS now that they are selling independently.

That said, the computer based interface is obviously different between TTS and PV, but what you are manipulating is the same. TTS has a few more tables you can tweak, but the PV is catching up. The Delphi ECM has a lot of 'stuff' that no aftermarket tuners can touch and in the end all you're doing is updating the exposed tables on the Delphi.

Canned maps, Dynojet has quite a few online and they can provide additional maps if you contact them directly. I'm not sure I understand what you mean by base maps to compare. Stock, Stage1, etc?

You can download the WinPV software and maps from Dynojet and mess with them even if you don't own the Tuner, good opportunity to prepare and learn. I did this before I got my PV.

I got a starting map from Jamie for my Andrews 57, he is very biased toward Woods, so he provides maps that are in the ball park for other cams. He gave me a Woods 777 based map. I'm sure he has others besides Woods, but limited.

I also got a map from Dynojet to use a starting map, also 'custom' as it was not a canned map on the download site. I had mixed results with that map. It could also be that all the effort i had into Jamies map caused me to stick with that map.

To date I am quite happy with the resulting map, but I know there's still power left on the table which I would prefer to harness on a dyno. Also there are a few quirks that I'd love to work out which I'm sure a pro can knock out in a moment or two. I've learned SO freakin much about tuning with this tool that I won't trade that experience, no way.

The PV is virtually identical to the TTS, except, it fixes the things that make the TTS tough to use for the DIY's. The PV eliminates need to carry a laptop, and it includes a display so you can see the cells you are covering when doing your recording/tuning runs.

Along with the tuning functions, as long as the display is available you have the ability to display approx. 30 parameters on gauges, basically anything the ECM reads or outputs can be displayed in gauge form. The unit also functions as a datalogger that will record any or all of the above parameters at a touch of the screen anytime while riding, and will also read out all the ECM error codes.

Myself, and alot of other former TTS users are very happy with the Power Vision.

There are some that will argue that one or the other company copied the other one, but I'll stay out of that game.

Thanks for the replies guys. There were a few gems in there. First I got a link to look at the "canned" maps. Second, I found out that I could download and play with the software, and last (and probably most important for me) I learned that former TTS users were very happy with the PV.

Looks like that is what I need. Thanks again,

Agreed, the PV interface is easier to deal with. TTS does have better live logging functionality tho, but as you said, that requires a computer. Although I think TTS does have an onboard display available, am sure that costs more than the PV unit alone...

I Do wish the PV display was about 2x the size, maybe closer to Zumo size... I can't see shit on that little screen without reading glasses unless lighting is perfect and at a dead stop... (talking about the tuning screens, not gauges)
