Please dont shoot me for asking

Ok, I know this has been done before (and probably to death) but, I guess I need to buy a controller and need to malke a decision on which one. I have a 2011 RGU with decatted head pipes and slip on Cobras, otherwise bone stock. I plan to add an aircleaner and probably different exhaust but cant decide which ones. If history is any indication, I will go through a couple configurations before making my final selection. May also do cams at some point.
So my questions are:
1. which controller is recomended and why?
2. I have heard on this forum about a controller set up that self adjusts when you chage stuff, who makes this and what has been the experience?
3. It seems ever dyno tuner has their own brand preference, so if you dont buy their brand will you still get a good result or should you try to find a tuner that prefers your brand?
4. On the map specific brands, how good are the downloads the manufacturer provides?

I had one of the orignal Cobra tuners on my 2000 Ultra that I yanked out and threw over the fence (piece of junk) then upgraded to a Powercommander at the urging of my Dyno tuner. It was better but still not great. I chalk my bad experience up to the fact that the bike had the old MM injection and few people know anything about it. I am simply trying to avoid the experimentation via wallet this time. Thanks for any help I get.

Your going to get a few different answers... but from my experience I am very happy with the Power Vision.

I had ZERO experience with working on motorcycles but I was able to connect the power vision and download the map in about 10 minutes.

I'll also recommend Fuel Moto as a dealer for the PV. Great prices and service.


I would / will purchase again when the time comes for another ride.

Sorry to ask a stupid question dmize, but what is a PV?

I would suggest a flash tuner over a piggy back tuner. The new bikes have a very delicate ECM connector.

I like the Power Vision (PV) also. Big advantage to be able autotune and quick tune without a laptop attached to the bike while you're riding. Also nice to be able to use the gauge functions on a day to day basis also. Fewer professional tuners familiar with this tuner however.

TTS is also a very good solution but it is targeted toward the professional tuners who have a Dyno. Requires a computer to monitor and make changes to the map.

Even if you don't change air cleaner out, tuner will bring benefits immediately.

Power vision is a flash tuner, it re-programs the bike's factory ECM settings to a pre-set map with adjusted fuel/air mixture. It also allows for future engine modifications with additional maps..... Fuel Moto is the best for these, I've bought 2 different tuners from them. Call Jamie he can answer any questions you have.

I just bought a power vision and it only took 5 minutes to flash my bike and the preloaded map Jamie put on it was spot on. Bike runs like a champ...

From studying dynojet at MMI the products from them have infinite tuneability. Great product if you want power adders. I was just researching the power vision myself. It flashes the new fuel map and then you can remove the display from the bike which I like because I wanna keep the bike clean up front

So I guess it is an overwhelming thumbs up for the Powervision. So I looked at the pricing and it is not bad at all. My question is do you have to call them everytime you make a change to get a new map or do they have a database like the power commander? Either way, when you get a new map do they charge for it. I see free support forever on their website but does that include maps?

if you buy from fuel moto, they will double the mfg 1 year warranty to 2 years, and give you lifetime map support. they do not have an online database, but there is a map request form you fill out and send in and they will send you the corresponding map in about 48hrs.

with the pv, if it is just a small change, you don't even need to request a new map, just autotune it and let the pv make the necessary changes.

there is a ton of reading on the pv, you can spend literally days trying to learn it. and dynojet is offering firmware updates on a pretty regular basis which just improves it more and more. one of the best improvements that they have made is the ability to add a second license to the unit so you can tune 2 bikes with it. sell one of the bikes, you can buy another license and replace one. its $199 for a second license

I understand the concept of reality, but find it too confining for a way of life.
