GPS Choices?

Sorry if there is a thread devoted strictly to GPS systems, but If there is I couldn't find it!
Question - I'm looking for a bike friendly GPS that I can upload routes to as well as communicate with via bluetooth or plug into the factory aux jack. From what I've found so far there are only 2 manufacturers making bike systems - Garmin and TomTom. Anyone out there run anything else? I don't really have $the $300-$800 necessary for one of these jokers, hell I just put $24000 down on a '13 glide and the ole lady's already bitching! Help a brother out here, any info/pic's on what works for you would be appreciated.

Admin- Anyway to sticky this????

If you have a smart phone take a look at the Navigon app. It beats any of the GPS units I have tried. If you do a search for Navigon there are a few threads floating around that may be of some help as well.

I recently just purchased the Road Tech 660 but prior to that I just used my phone. I downloaded the TomTom navigation app for $35 and that worked great. It downloads all the data to your phone so it can work without cell service.

I opted for the Road Tech because it's weatherproof and also uploading premapped routes.

With the Navigon app, can you map out trips? Ie; set points to hit?

Yes, Check out this thread by JJSW1283 on using the routeconverter program to map out your trip using Navigon.

You can use any GPS, doesn't have to be a "bike system"

I either put mine away or put a zip-lok bag over it when going through rain.

When looking at Garmins, you have to make sure the model will accept routes or you can not upload your routes to it.

I'm not a fan of baggies, I went with a waterproof solution - Garmin 660.

The Baggie system got annoying after a while and if the rain got real bad, it usually happened to be when I needed the unit the most.

To the OP, the TomTom app that I mentioned did not allow for uploaded trips as far as I know.

Buy a mid-priced Garmin at Walmart. When trying to separate the wheat from the chaff, don't go within five miles of a Harley dealer--you'll get reaped!

I use Waze on my phone, its free and works pretty good!
and I listen to Pandora radio so the GPS stops the music and give the directions as needed.
