Lost Navigation commands with Zumo 665-Boom NIM setup

I just completed a road trip that went from Maryland to Tennessee by way of BlueRidge Parkway and Smokey Mountains. Did the Tail of the Dragon 3 times, it was great.

I was about 90% of the way home, and noticed that my Garmen stopped providing navigation commands though my fairing speakers, although the MP3 files play without any issues through my fairing speakers. I disabled all of the Bluetooth connections, but still no Nav command audio through the fairing. The volume setting in the Garmen's "mixed" settings is 100% for MP3's and GPS.

Does anyone know why I might be experincing this problem all of the sudden? I hate to tear down the fairing looking for a problem, if I don't have to. Thanks for any help.

check the position of your speaker selection switch on the ignition console.

I have a Road Glide Custom. As far as I know, they are not equipped with speaker selection switches.

When I disconnect the Garmin from the mount, I can hear the commands from the small built in Garmin speaker. When it is plugged into the mount, the music gets interrupted, but there is no GPS command.

Like I said, it was working up until the very last leg of the trip. No particular jolts or bumps I can attribute it to either, never dropped, etc.

Starting to think I need to go over connections behind the fairing, although hard pressed to think of anything that would have come loose.

Appreciate any ideas.

I just went through this. Sorry.... but you need to open your fairing. Unplug all of the connections to the NIM, and clean them. Use contact cleaner, and then a small amount of dielectric grease.

BUT FIRST. When you say the music gets interrupted but no commands, try this......... when the music goes silent, tap the handlebar volume control up, while the commands normally would be given. You may have turned the command volume down by accident, thinking you were actually turning down the music...... and don't ask how I know this.

Under volume "mixer", everything is set to 100%. I'm aware of DeOx-it for cleaning the connections, which I have for my home audio equipment. Where do you get dielectric grease locally?

You need to try to turn up the NAV volume on the radio, not the GPS. To do this wait for the music to be interrupted, then push up the radio volume control on the handlebar. The radio NAV volume is separate from the GPS volume settings.

You may have turned that down by accident.

For dielectric grease.... Radio shack, or most hardware stores have it.

Thank you! I'll try that, and thanks for the info on dielectric grease.

I just wanted to report back that PGR's tip about turning the volume up when the interruption to the music occurs. When I did this the commands came blasting out of the speakers again. Woo hoo, worked like a charm! I never realized that the Master volume worked independently for MP3's vs navigation commands that way. Cool that it works that way, now that I know.

I really appreciate the tip, thanks...

Another satisfied customer. Drop a couple bucks in a Jerry's kids bucket to keep the good karma going.
