Garmin 590LM

With much trepidation I went ahead and sprung for the new Garmin 590LM. After a 600+ mile trip through the Texas hill country this weekend I am duly impressed.

My wife doesn't have a GPS on her bike so I lead from the rear. Being able to tell her well in advance which lane to be in was a really nice feature riding through San Antonio in traffic. We also participate in HOGs ABCs of Touring each year so we're always stopping at out of the way places for pictures. I had about 20 waypoints mapped out and the GPS spoke the name of the waypoint and which side of the road it was on as we approached.

One of the other nice features is having real-time traffic and weather. The weather feature helped us route around a couple of pop up showers and I used the traffic feature yesterday on my way home to bypass a major accident in Dallas.

It comes with both bike and car mounts and includes a Ram kit for the bike. I mounted mine to the clutch perch on the Harley GPS mount and routed the power and USB under the speedo cowling. I used the accessory connector under the seat to get switched power and ran the USB cable on to my right saddle bag.

At $800 it's pricy but just like any other tool in your kit, you get what you pay for.

That sure is pricey!! Hope it serves you well. I use my Garmin Nuvi 1450LMT, I got lifetime maps and traffic but no weather feature but it only cost me $180 2 years ago. I got around $40 in my ram mount for putting it on the bike.

I also just purchased the 590lm and look forward to the many new features. It's pricy, but I just love this stuff. Logged well over 150k miles with my zumo 550. TIme to update. Since I lead many rides, the lane assist feature and the curvy road option sold me. Glad to hear the good report. Thanks.
