Zumo 660 or 665 GPS

Ok I've decided to buy a zumo. Which one?

The cd is much better than the radio sound quality on my stock HK head unit.

Is the xm sound quality on the 665 as good as from cd?

Will both units fully use a 32GB sd card?

If I plug either zumo to aux in on the HK and listen to mp3 or xm will I get voice directions?

Also I assume you can set the voice volume independent from the mp3 volume.

Not sure about the 665 but I have 660 my impression is that the 665 is an improved version of the 665 and therefore the 665 is the latest and greatest. Suggest you check out zumoforums.com great site just like this is a great site.

Well, I just got back from checking out the zumo 660 at the dealer.

I'm not impressed with the pressure touch screens, never have been. Hardware buttons and a little more effort from the software developers would convince me to buy one.

I had to mash the crap out the screen on this demo model to get it to work, not the kind of thing I'd enjoy thinking I paid $800 for. Sales guy said, "well folks play with this one all the time and wear it out, new ones aren't like this one". My reply, "so mine will be like this one in a year, great. No thanks".

Beside it's pretty easy and cheap to sew some conductive thread into any glove to make it work with capacitive touch screens.

Likely I'll just do without gps until I find an old small marine unit. I think a garmin 275 is about right size, maybe wrong model number.

I'm gonna try to quit thinking gps and go ahead and buy that D&D Fat Cat pipe now.

This new motorcycle version from Garmin doesn't do everything the 665 does, like XM, but does everything a GPS is supposed to do and a lot cheaper. Uses a micro sd card....

I have a 660 and have had no problems with the screen. So far as the model being used as a demo my experience has not shown this to be a problem. Sound quality is good as it relates to the loaded mp3s I do not have XM so I can't speak to that. Unless you get the NIM module, (Navigation Interface Module) you will only hear directions if you are in Aux mode on the head unit. The NIM will interrupt any audio source and give you the directions through the speakers.

The 660 and 665 are the same unit except for the XM Radio. I have the 665 and I'm satisfied with it. I've only used the GPS a couple of times but I use the XM feature daily. I transferred the XM radio from my car to the GPS. I'm rarely in the cage but I bring the XM with me when I want drive.

Check this guy out he will sell you a zumo a lot cheaper than $800 big one. I just bought a 660 from with H/bar mounting bracket, all you need is the HD part number.

I just cant bring myself to the point of paying $600-800 for a friggin GPS. I just bought a Garmin 1490LMT which is bluetooth, 5" screen. Paid $129 on Ebay and it has free lifetime maps and traffic. OK, its not waterproof.....I throw a Ziploc bag over it if it rains....or buy another one.....probably better and cheaper in a couple of years. OK so its not motorcycle rugged...who gives a $hit....I don't ride Baja.

And with the Zuno you still have to pay for map updates ....that is if u want them.

Just call me a cheapA$$......on some things!

Weather on 665

I have the 665 and subscribe to XM weather ($10/mo). It alerts me of rain or bad weather, gives me motion radar in relation to my position..... saved my ass from many a heavy downpour. On my return trip from Baton Rouge last year it alerted me to a violent storm approaching and I was able to pull off the highway and find shelter just in time and missed driving into a severe hail storm.

I can see the number calling me via bluetooth and decide whether to pull over and answer or ignore the call.

Pricey but worth it to me.
